Duties:
Under the direction of the Area/District Supervisor, or designate, the Clerk / Radio Operator functions as a team member providing support services to district staff by operating radios and telephones, arranging for services as requested by field staff during fire emergencies; complies with Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and department policies, and is an active participant in implementing the department Occupational Health and Safety Policy and Programs; staffing the office front desk, directing telephone calls to staff, data entry, computer operation, issuing a variety of licenses and permits to the general public, and assisting with a variety of clerical duties for staff.

This position requires the ability to work as part of a team, and perform in an efficient and effective manner during times of fire emergencies. Duties may require working irregularly scheduled hours, weekends, evenings and holidays. Must be willing to attend department training in duties related to this position.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Grade 11 and 3 years related experience. Preference given to those with formal Secretarial / Office Administration training

Valid NS Class 5 Drivers License or equivalent

Valid (Standard) First Aid Certificate and WHMIS training

Working knowledge and previous experience in computer use, including: internet, email and web-based applications.

Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing

Desirable Qualifications:
Experience and/or training in radio communication

Knowledge of forest fire suppression activities

Customer service training

Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations

Pay Grade: CL 13

Salary Range: $1,312.99 – $1,429.18 bi-weekly (approximately $18.75 – $20.41 hourly)

This is a bargaining unit position initially restricted to current civil service employees represented by the Nova Scotia Government Employees Union.
