Duties:

Reporting to the Chief Aquatic Animal Health Veterinarian, the incumbent will apply standard veterinary practice to aquatic animals including preventing, diagnosing and treatment. Extensive travel required to remote farming sites. The candidate will frequently consult with farmers to respond to emergency and general population health issues. The candidate must apply provincial aquatic health policy and regulations and work closely with provincial and national officials to participate in disease surveillance programs. The candidate must be capable of supervising an aquatic animal health lab and work closely with other aquatic animal health professionals and facilities.

Qualifications:

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and meet the qualifications for license to practice with the Nova Scotia Veterinary Medical Association.

The candidate must have excellent communication skills with clients, colleagues and other government officials. Background and training in aquatic animal health is an asset. The candidate must be capable of extensive travel, work in remote areas, on the water around fish farms and boats, working extended hours and be available for on-call duty. A driver’s license is required as well as computer literacy.

Offer of employment is conditional upon the completion of all applicable background checks and confirmation of credentials, the results of which must be satisfactory to the employer or will result in termination of your employment.

Pay Grade: PR 14 – PR 19

Salary Range: $60,352 – $90,066

This is a bargaining unit position initially restricted to current civil service employees represented by the Nova Scotia Government Employees Union.
