Role Summary:
The primary responsibility of the Human Resources Director is to oversee the day-to-day operations of the People Resources Department and fostering a culture of collaboration. Please note this role is an 8-month contract, covering a maternity leave for the period of mid-October to end of June 2016.
This position requires exceptionally strong communication and a collaborative approach with all hotel leadership and departmental colleagues.
The Human Resources Director’s responsibilities also includes:

Working with the Hotel Leadership team in fostering a workplace culture that exemplifies Delta’s Values and service culture of being Welcoming, Engaging and Exceeding!
A member of the Leadership Team who contributes information and a balanced opinion/judgment on colleague relations initiatives and/or opportunities.
Maintains professional internal guest service and acts as a resource while building and maintaining confidence and credibility with colleagues and leaders.
Act as an objective third party in highly charged coaching, problem solving or conflict situations.
Administers all employment labour issues and acts as a facilitator or mediator to support resolutions and minimize future disputes in coaching, problem solving or conflict situations.
Facilitates the development of the annual Employee Engagement Survey action plan, People Resources Plan and Hotel Goals Plan.
With the support of the Recruitment & Colleague Relations Specialist oversees and provides guidance of the Recruitment and Selection process. Monitors absenteeism and turnover of colleagues to evaluate recruitment effectiveness.
Responsible for all aspects of administration and organization of the Human Resources office and maintains confidential files. Ensures all Human Resources reporting is well maintained and accurately recorded.
Prepare budgets, forecasts and monitor financial performance.
A member of the compensation committee, the Human Resources Director works with the Compensation & Wellness Specialist to review compensation and salary benefits annually.
Plans and organizes short and long-term Human Resources strategies in regards to communication, recruitment, succession planning, health & safety, colleague wellness, learning & development, reward and recognition programs and maintaining a non-union status. Ensures human resources practices align with Hotel’s strategic direction, its philosophies and values.
Works closely with the Compensation & Wellness Specialist and the Payroll office to ensure colleagues are paid correctly and that the systems in place continue to be compliant and effective.
Works with the Recruitment & Colleague Relations Specialist to coordinates all celebratory and social functions at the hotel.
Assist in the facilitation of in-house training, development of special sessions and supporting a learning culture at the Delta Toronto.
Working with the People Resources team to ensure communication is clear, concise and relevant throughout the hotel.

A responsible individual with 5 years of senior Human Resources Management and Supervisory experience in a hotel or hospitality related environment.
University/College education in Human Resources. Working towards or achievement of CHRP designation is an asset.
Knowledge of Human Rights, Ontario Labour Law Legislation and WSIB Legislation required.
Training, coaching and public speaking experience.
Detail and deadline oriented, able to prioritize in a very busy environment
Proven computer literacy (Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word). Knowledge of Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) an asset.
Possess conflict resolution, mediation and strategic planning skills.
Must exhibit excellent communication and listening skills. Must be a very approachable, team-oriented and cooperative
Must be analytical with proven problem solving skills with the ability to be very resourceful.
Must be a self-starter who is organized and demonstrates good time-management skills.
Must be legally authorized to work in Canada. Please note that the hotel is unable to assist candidates in obtaining a Canadian work authorization.

Interpersonal Skills:
This position requires a highly motivated, energetic, super organized hands-on professional with exceptionally strong leadership and collaboration skills who can guide and motivate colleagues, as well as consult and influence internal and external partners and collaborate with cross-functional teams. The Assistant Director of People Resources must have strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to interact with a diverse group of executives, managers and subject matter experts. Key interpersonal skills required include listening, advocating, negotiating and communicating straightforward and complex information. The position requires professional level interpersonal skills to interact and communicate effectively with stakeholders from different origins and cultures.

Strategic Planning, Analysis and Implementation: In collaboration with senior management, develops short-term tactical and longer-term strategic plans that create the necessary business platforms, systems and innovative brand products to better enable the entity by deploying high, efficient performance standards and meet company objectives of its brand essence.

Proven Negotiator: Demonstrated ability to negotiate favorable agreements, pragmatically assessing alternatives and trade-offs to reach agreements that all parties believe address their needs.

Effective Communicator: Is an effective communicator in all mediums to all types of audiences ensuring that he/she gets their message across to the audience with a high level of understanding. As an effective communicator, will have distilled complex issues to their essence and articulated a compelling case in support of the required decisions.

Managerial Courage: Has the courage to make tough decisions and has the self-confidence to take ‘unpopular’ decisions to the top when it is in the best interests of the business.
