Resident Support Worker Summer Student (8 weeks, 30 hours per week)

DeafBlind Ontario Services provides support through Intervenor Services to deafblind adults by providing the visual and auditory information necessary to enable the person who is deafblind to interact with other people and their environment.


Intervenor (IV) facilitates access to environmental information that is usually gained through vision and hearing for clients living with deafblindness. The Intervenor will assist clients to gather information, learn concepts and skills, develop communication and language, and establish relationships that lead to greater independence. They will provide a bridge to the world for the client with deafblindness and ensures that client is informed and an active participant in every activity. Intervenors provide a consistent presence in the client’s life in order to gain their trust, and provide them with a safe base for exploration and learning which promotes social and emotional development and well-being.

Job Duties:

Assists the client service team with client programming
In collaboration with the Coordinator of Regional Client Services, assists in the development and implementation of client strategy plans
Uses ‘total communication’
Assists with routine duties and documentation (client reports, service tracking, health reports, log notes, etc.)
Maintains accurate and confidential information, records and reports for each client
Assists with personal care as required (e.g. lifts and transfers, personal hygiene)
Assists in the overall upkeep and maintenance of the home
Follows activity plans, based on the clients program plan
Other duties as assigned


To be eligible for this position through the Canada Summer Jobs initiative, you must:
be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and,
be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
