Description du projet

Un Plant de Tomate à la Fois est un projet d’agriculture urbaine et de sécurité alimentaire qui fait la promotion de jardinage urbain durable, de la transformation des aliments frais et du développement communautaire qui met en place de saines habitudes de vie, un engagement citoyen actif et un sens de responsabilité environnementale. Le projet est géré par un partenariat qui comprend Centre Communautaire Dawson, École Primaire et Centre Scolaire Communautaire Riverview, et le Mission Southwest.

Un plant de tomate à la Fois comprend plusieurs jardins collectifs situés dans des écoles et des espaces publics de Verdun. Ce projet met à contribution des familles et des membres de la communauté, jeunes et vieux. Ils viennent jardiner et apprendre en jardinant ensemble, plantant, récoltant et partageant le produit de la récolte. Ils participent à des activités éducatives concernant l’alimentation, la production alimentaire et la transformation des aliments (confitures, conserves, etc.). Ils établissent un dialogue au sujet des saines habitudes alimentaires et de l’agriculture durable. Nous travaillons principalement avec les jeunes en offrant des ateliers éducatifs dans les classes et les jardins. Le collectif emploiera 2 animateurs, un pour une période de 26 semaines (fin avril à mi-octobre) et 12 semaines (fin juin à septembre).

Responsabilités des animateurs
Les animateurs, en collaboration avec le coordinateur, auront à gérer le projet jardin durant la période pour laquelle ils seront embauchés. Leurs tâches incluent:

• Préparer, planter et s’occuper de trois jardins collectifs à Verdun
• Développer et animer des activités éducatives pour enfants et pour adultes autour des thèmes du jardinage et de la transformation alimentaire (cela inclus des grands groupes d’enfants dans les classes et les camps de jours).
• Partager des connaissances sur le jardinage avec les participants et les assister.
• Promouvoir les liens communautaires en créant une atmosphère accueillante qui encourage le dialogue entre les participants.
• Assurer une communication continue et une coordination avec les participants et la coordonnatrice ou coordonnateur du projet.
• Composter les résidus de jardinage (compostage sur le site)
• Sensibilisation de la communauté environnante pour attirer de nouveaux participants
• Fournir de courts rapports d’activité et de progrès au coordonnateur ou à la coordonnatrice et aux superviseurs.

Profil de l’animateur-trice recherché
Le candidat idéal devra être créatif, bien informé et passionné de jardinage collectif / communautaire, d’alimentation saine et de transformation alimentaire. Le candidat doit posséder de fortes aptitudes de leadership et être flexible pour s’adapter aux besoins des participants et du projet, ainsi qu’une certaine connaissance et expérience en jardinage. Le candidat doit être apte à travailler en équipe et être un excellent communicateur. Avoir de l’expérience dans le travail auprès des enfants. Connaissance des réseaux sociaux et du compostage est un atout. .

Project Description
Un Plant de Tomate à la Fois is an urban agriculture and food security project that promotes sustainable urban gardening, food transformation and community development as a means to healthy living, active citizenship and environmental responsibility. The project is managed through a partnership between Dawson Community Center, Riverview Community Learning Centre and the Southwest Mission.

Un Plant de Tomate à La Fois includes several collective gardens in schools and public spaces in Verdun. This project mobilizes families and community members, young and old, to garden and learn about gardening together, grow, harvest and share produce, participate in educational activities around food, food production and food transformation (jams, canning etc.) and create a dialogue around sustainable agriculture and healthy living. We work primarily with youth offering educational workshops in classrooms and gardens. The collective will be employing two animators for periods of 26 weeks (end of April – mid- October) and 12 weeks (end of June to September).

Responsibilities of the Animator(s)
The animators, in collaboration with the coordinator, will be required to manage the garden and food transformation project during the allotted employment period. Tasks include:

• Prepare, plant and tend to three collective gardens in Verdun
• Develop and animate educational activities around the themes of gardening and food transformation for children and adults (including large groups of children in classrooms and camps)
• Share gardening knowledge with participants and assisting them
• Promote community-building by creating a welcoming atmosphere that encourages dialogue among participants
• Ensure ongoing communication and coordination with project participants and project coordinator.
• Community outreach efforts to attract participants
• Compost garden materials (compost on-site)
• Providing short activity and progress reports to coordinator and supervisors

Animator Profile
The ideal candidate is creative, knowledgeable and passionate about collective/community gardening, healthy eating and food transformation. The candidate must possess strong leadership skills and be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the participants and project as well as have some knowledge and experience in gardening. The candidate must be a team player with excellent communication skills and should have experience working with children. Knowledge and experience with composting an asset.
