Description

David Aplin Group, one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies, has partnered with an international manufacturing client to recruit a Manager – Procurement, Materials & Logistics for its location in Chester, Nova Scotia.

Reporting to the CFO, the Manager – Procurement, Materials & Logistics will be a people focused and influential member of the team that will work closely with the Production, Engineering and Sales teams to achieve on-time product delivery. The Manager is responsible to participate in cross-functional efforts to achieve efficiency and cost reduction targets, manage all aspects of materials flow to maintain control and accuracy and build relationships with suppliers and contractors while minimizing costs and maximizing quality, delivery and service.

Additional Responsibilities:
Create and maintain methods and best practices that support inventory forecasting, purchasing and materials control

Maintain and execute a sourcing strategy to meet growth requirements

Identify and build strong and effective relationships with existing and potential vendors

Oversee system designed to evaluate and report on supplier performance regarding established cost, quality and delivery targets

Ensure that all local, national and international purchasing related legislation is followed at all times

Supervise cycle counts, taking corrective action where necessary

Oversee the optimization of investment and minimize committed working capital

Proactively identify and address any issues causing a delay in achieving on-time product delivery

Ensure compliance with national and international transport and shipping documentation and legislation

Develop and lead a team of operations staff

Support and promote a culture of safety

The Ideal Candidate:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Management, or a closely related field

Professional accreditation in supply chain, logistics or purchasing or an appropriate combination of experience

5-7 years of leadership experience working in an operations, purchasing or continuous improvement process role

Strong departmental planning and demonstrated ability to problem solve

Demonstrated ability to motivate and engage people

Experience and knowledge of international trade regulations and export transactions preferred

Excellent computer skills with proficiency in MS Office

Experience with ERP/MRP systems such as Syspro would be an asset

Team player, both supportive and encouraging

Understanding of basic accounting and lean manufacturing concepts

Passion for continuous learning and professional development

Willingness to travel periodically to visit suppliers, as required
