Dalhousie University invites applications for a Tier II Canada Research Chair in the field of Marine Quantitative Ecology. The successful candidate will have skills and expertise and a strong record of accomplishments in the fields of statistical and mathematical ecosystem modeling as applied to the marine environment. The research program would be aimed at enhancing our ability to predict the complex changes taking place in the North Atlantic Ocean; this will be achieved through the coupling of a dynamic general ecosystem model, with ocean circulation and climate models, as well as with socio-economic models.

The position will be held in the Department of Biology, Dalhousie University, and will benefit from interaction with Dalhousie’s Canada Excellence Research Chair in Ocean Science and Technology held in the Oceanography Department, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, the Center for Comparative Genomics and Evolutionary Bioinformatics, the National Research Council Laboratory and the Halifax Marine Research Institute. The department is particularly interested in applicants with a strong background in marine quantitative ecology, but will consider all qualified applicants with a strong quantitative ecology background.

The candidate should have a PhD degree, postdoctoral experience and a research track record that is exceptional for his/her career stage. It is anticipated that the appointment will be tenure-stream and made at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The successful applicant will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate classes in their area of expertise and to develop a vigorous and creative research program with external funding.

Consideration of applications will begin on July 15th but will continue to be accepted until the position is filled. Submit a curriculum vitae, list of publications, a summary of research interests, a research proposal (no more than 3 pages), a statement of teaching interests and experience, and three confidential letters of reference forwarded under separate cover by the referees.
