The volunteer’s role
The volunteer’s role will be to support Fruandes in the process of expanding in terms of the number of hectares and producers that are certified organic.
Currently, Fruandes is experiencing a phase of rapid growth and for that reason it is crucial that this growth is both organic and sustainable starting from the base of the value-chain: with our producers of organic fruits. Fruandes has supported more than 85 hectares of certified organic production in 6 departments of the Andean region of the Colombia where we produce pineapple, mango, bananas, dragon fruit, Andean berries, sugar cane and cocoa. The main challenges for our organic production are the following: 1. Construct an operational plan for organic production for the products mentioned, with academic, technical and scientific support. 2. Construct a research methodology that supports the development of solutions to the limitations of organic production. 3. Generate new knowledge about organic production to support the management of plagues and illnesses.
- Create a work plan for the technical support to small producers in each of the 6 regions of Colombia where Fruandes Works (Nariño, Cauca, Tolima, Cundinamarca, Huila and Antioquia) – that includes needs of the producers in each region and for each product.
- Design a research methodology that provides solutions for current limitations of organic production for small producers and generate new knowledge and materials on organic production in terms of plagues and pests.
- Generate materials with academic, technical and scientific support to contain plagues and illnesses in organic ways for all Fruandes products.
