Cross Country Nova Scotia and Canoe Kayak Nova Scotia are seeking a shared Manager. The successful applicant will primarily work at the Sport Nova Scotia building in our shared office, and will split time between the organizations. Specific tasks vary for each organization. The Manager will report to either the President(s) of each organization and/or to an appointed Human Resources representative. CKNS has their busiest season around the summer months while CCNS is primarily active during the winter.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Board management and support, including attending regular board meetings where required as well as the AGM of each PSO
  • Financial administration, budget tracking, paying invoices, and working with Sport Nova Scotia on year-end financial statements
  • Provide consultative services on bylaws, procedures, and other working documents related to the PSO’s
  • Communications including being first point of contact for each organization, forwarding inquiries, responding to requests as needed, and developing communications material as needed
  • Report writing, including annual reporting on provincial funding and assisting the boards with the production of annual reports for each organization
  • Membership administration including maintaining and developing organizational newsletters, updating websites, and social media as well as lists of organizational clubs, instructors, and business affiliates
  • Financial management of each organization, managing budgets, reporting, and working with Sport Nova Scotia on organizational accounting with budget management for CKNS
  • Managing organizational membership lists for the national organizations
  • Maintaining communication and building relationships with national sport organizations for CCNS.
  • Managing insurance requests for events
  • Helping to organize sport events as needed
  • Working with additional organizational staff where required
  • Assisting organizations with shared priorities, where identified

Additional responsibilities:

  • Manage shared office space and office supplies
  • Communicate with organizational boards on relevant issues at Sport Nova Scotia, including policy and management changes

Required Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills, including written communication
  • Proficient in social media: monitoring and updating social media sites
  • Networking
  • Experience in financial management and/or book keeping
  • Experience in promotional material development
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to take direction and work with volunteer based boards

Desired Attributes

  • Knowledge of, and ideally participation in either recreational or competitive activities including cross country skiing, canoeing, kayaking, and stand up paddleboarding.

The position is available for a two-year contract, following an initial 3-month probationary period. The contract may be renewed and the hours may be extended, pending funding availability for each of the organizations. The two boards will support the Manager in developing skills that will benefit the organizations as well as help the Manager to refine skills that support her/his career development.

Start date: May 1st, 2018

Salary: $20.00 per hr. for 26 hrs per week. The position includes three weeks of vacation per year.
