Reporting to the Manager, Program Services, the Fitness, Weights and Rehabilitation Coordinator is responsible for developing, promoting, implementing, administering, scheduling and evaluating programs and services in the fitness, weights, rehabilitation areas. The incumbent provides assistance to individuals, community groups and organizations in the health and fitness field and serves on a program team responsible for the provision of quality recreation opportunities in the community. The incumbent will be required to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends. This position requires an acceptable criminal record check. The applicant/incumbent will be required to undergo a criminal record check in order to work in this position, and to report to their Supervisor if any criminal charges are laid against them that may be related to their employment in this position. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: • Develops, coordinates and promotes a broad range of recreation programs within the fitness, weights,
rehabilitation areas of community recreation. • Promotes health and wellness by developing, promoting and implementing fitness and nutrition
initiatives. • Coordinates the provision of services with medical practitioners and various service contractors to
ensure a comprehensive offering of programs and drop-in opportunities. • Ensures smooth communication with insurance and client referring agencies (e.g. ICBC). • Markets and promotes fitness, weights, rehabilitation programs and services in conjunction with the
Manager, Program Services and the Program Assistant. • Develops and maintains on-going relationships with a variety of peninsula organizations. • Recruits and selects fitness, weights, rehabilitation staff. • Supervises fitness, weights, rehabilitation staff, including performance, and provides leadership
training opportunities to staff. • Prepares/ monitors fitness, weights, rehabilitation staff schedules and payroll. • Prepares/monitors budget for the fitness, weights, rehabilitation programs. • Purchases equipment/supplies and maintains records for these programs. • Recommends policies and procedures relating to the fitness, weights, rehabilitation areas.
• Provides reports as required. • Evaluates the effectiveness of the various programs and services through frequent inspections and
staff meetings. • Plans and implements special events in the fitness and weights area, and assists with the planning
and implementation of special events offered by the department. • Promotes active living and fitness/wellness to various community groups and organizations. • Participates on inter-municipal committees and assists with the development and implementation of
joint initiatives. • Follows all policies, procedures and standards of the CRD • Performs other related duties as required. QUALIFICATIONS: • Degree in Recreation Management, Education, Kinesiology, Physiotherapy, or related discipline plus
2 years’ directly related experience in recreation based fitness, weights and rehabilitation programming, including supervisory experience, or
• Diploma in Recreation, Health and Fitness studies or related discipline plus 3 – 5 years’ directly related experience, including 2 years’ supervisory experience.
• Current certifications: BCRPA Fitness Leader, CPR C, First Aid, and Instructor Trainer. • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and customer service skills are required. • Extensive and comprehensive work experience in the fitness, weights and rehabilitation areas • Knowledge and understanding of WorkSafeBC practices/protocols, Workers’ Compensation Act and
OH&S Regulations and other relevant safety statutes • Knowledge of recreation program planning and administration • Experience in the public recreation field and working with seniors • Knowledge in dealing with medical practitioners, insurance companies and other agencies in relation
to both land and water based rehabilitation services. • Ability to organize and prioritize workload, work under pressure with general supervision while
meeting scheduled deadlines. • Basic instructional certification in one or more fitness areas to allow for course instruction. • Ability to work independently and to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships Ability
to work well in a multi-disciplinary team. • Proficiency and experience with word processing (MS Word), spreadsheets (MS Excel) and
registration programs (CLASS). • Must be able to work a variety of shifts to meet operational requirements. • Must possess a valid BC Driver’s Licence.
