The Testing and Commissioning Engineer will be working under a Senior Commissioning Engineer and be responsible for developing and/or reviewing test plans, commissioning plans, Substations, controls, SCADA, relay protection circuits and associated equipment. A high degree of travel will be part of this role and assignments will be to projects in Canada.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will perform a wide variety of testing and commissioning and maintenance services on transmission lines/cables and at substations in areas of protection and controls, new equipment commissioning, specialty maintenance, and routine maintenance. Some tests include, but are not limited to:
- Insulation resistance
- Power factor
- DC over-potential testing
- AC over-potential testing, partial discharge testing
- Insulating oil dielectric strength
- Insulating oil power factor
- Travel and timing test for circuit breaker and circuit switchers * Relay calibration and fault simulation testing
- IEC 61850 GOOSE Signal Verification
- Substation Battery Testing
- Power line carrier and audio tone equipment testing
- Trip testing of protective relay systems and packages
- CT and VT Polarity and ratio testing
- CCVT testing
- Pressure test of gauges, piping and receivers
- Ground grid resistance and ground resistance testing
- Visual inspections
- Transformer testing, TTR, SFRA, Core-to-ground insulation resistance
- Wiring and circuit verification of complex control circuits.
- Contacts resistance
- Protective relay test and calibration
- Wiring and control verification
- Wiring and control installation/removal
- Wiring change work sequence documents. (Write up’s)
- Motor Operated Disconnect Testing
- Development of Test Energization plans
Qualification/Experiences Necessary:
- A Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering with eligibility to obtain a P.Eng through the PEO is preferred,
- 5 years of relevant work experience including; commissioning, testing, 345kV to 69kV experience in line and substations
- Comprehensive understanding of key principles of electrical power system protection and controls including metering, re-closer operation, and networks.
- Understanding of DNP.3 and IEC61850 communication protocols * Knowledge of using secondary testing device for protection system such as Omicron test set and Doble Testing equipment.
- With experience working on GE, SEL and ABB relay functional testing.
- Proficient with Microsoft office software suite excellent organizational skills and ability to manage a wide variety of issues simultaneously.
- Strong analytical, risk assessment and problem solving skills.
- Ability to work for extended periods out of town.
