Operational Leadership; Manages a high profile and complex program and is involved in all aspects of IPC services across the continuum of care in COV. This includes, but is not limited to, acute care, rural health, continuing care, SL, mental health and rehabilitation. Leads the team in the provision of education, IPC service delivery, outbreak management, surveillance, standards compliance and review processes across the continuum of care (i.e. COV clinical programs and services and support services). Strategic Planning; Participates in developing, implementing and evaluating the overall strategic operational plans to support patient-focused care programs delivery and outcomes in COV. Participates and informs the priorities of the IPC strategic operational plan. Risk Management; Promotes an environment that fosters quality improvement and a culture of safety for patients, staff, physicians and volunteers. Commits to continuous improvement of health and safety performance through promotion of a patient safety culture which includes incorporation of eveidence0bases best practice and risk management principles. People Management; Ensures the strategic use of human resources in providing the most effective and efficient delivery of IPC service in COV. Provides leadership to the IPC staff who have diverse experience, knowledge an education. Directs and manages recruitment, evaluation and performance management of the IPC staff in COV. Resource Management; Manages the overall operating budget for COV IPC program with accountability including allocation of resources and authorization and control of expenditures as set out by COV policy, Implements strategies to support the long and short term goals of COV and the IPC program. Ensures the operations of the IPC program support the service delivery model in COV and Strategic Plan of COV.

Required Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree (a graduate degree preferred) in a health related filed. Certification in Infection Control (CIC) required. A minimum of 5 years in a leadership role in a healthcare organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. A demonstrated pattern of professional and personal development. Equivalencies in education and experience may be considered. Active license with professional organization (such as CARNA, ACMLT) required.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an ICP. Progressive management experience in healthcare. Successful record of achievement as a leaders with a large and diverse range of functions. Practical experience in strategy, policy development, leadership, project management and program development. Knowledge and demonstrated application of business planning, program and management theory. Strategic thinking, taking into account long term goals assessing options and implications. Effective communication skills coupled with strong organizational skills, patient focused orientation, and commitment to providing quality services Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Ability to manage diverse human, financial and physical resources in a changing and multifaceted environment with diverse, complex and sensitive issues. Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals within a large diverse organization and managing within a unionized sector.

Preferred Qualifications:

Content knowledge required in all areas of infection prevention and control (epidemiological and statistical principles, microbiology, cleaning disinfection and sterilization, construction and renovation and how these activities impact patient safety) and is able to apply this knowledge through all systems. The Director has demonstrated leadership ability including problem solving, decision making, performance management, coaching, negotiation, team building and consensus building.
