As a Human Resources Manager this position will build strong relationships of trust as a business partner, using experience and insight to guide others towards the best short-term and long-term business decisions. The HR Manager serves as an advisor on Human Resource matters and participates in the facilities’ strategic and operational planning processes by providing analysis, information, trends, plans and approaches to ensure that the Human Resources function is aligned with Covanta Environmental Solution’s core competencies.

This role provides leadership, support, expertise and services with respect to the following functional areas: retention, recruitment, selection and orientation, position classification, human resources policies, succession planning, diversity, organization development, staff training and career development, culture and change management, human resource planning and performance management.

Position Requirements

Job Duties

  • Maintain organization staff by sourcing, recruiting, pre-screening qualified candidates, scheduling interviews with candidates and hiring managers, counseling managers on candidate selection, conducting reference checks, criminal background checks and scheduling pre-employment medical exams if applicable, preparing and making the verbal and written employment offers and new hire paperwork to selected candidates.
  • Ensure planning, monitoring, and appraisal of employee work results by training managers to regularly evaluate their employees and coach and discipline their employees; hearing and resolving employee complaints; counseling employees, supervisors and managers.
  • Prepare employees for assignments by establishing and conducting orientation and training sessions, along with conducting exit interviews with departing employees.
  • Support employee benefits programs and inform employees of benefits and organizing educational programs on benefits programs.
  • Provide legal guidance related to HR policy when necessary, advising on applicable human resource provincial regulation requirements, conducting investigations, maintaining records and representing the organization.
  • Prepare, review, and process payroll.
  • Maintain the work structure by updating job requirements and job descriptions for all positions.
  • Supports Administration of all leaves (maternity, paternity, parental, sick, short term and long term disability cases).
  • Other miscellaneous and administrative duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of human resources generalist experience with demonstrated expertise in employee relations, recruitment, payroll, benefits, training, and performance management preferably in a medium size business.
  • Bachelors degree required in Human Resources Management, or similar degree in Communications or Business Administration.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in French and English.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and employee relations skills, with the ability to quickly build strong partnerships.
  • Strong working knowledge and demonstrated experience with the Act Respecting Labor Standards, Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Legislation; and Human Rights regulations.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; and the ability to thrive in a multi-tasking environment and work under pressure.
