the County of Grande Prairie is seeking a Parks Caretaker for our Old Bezanson Townsite. Located along the bank of the Smoky River, this park is 11km southeast of Bezanson.
Old Bezanson Townsite is designated as a group overnight camping only, as well as general public and group day use between mid-May and mid-October each year. The group camping area has 21 camp sites, and two outdoor restrooms. The day use area has a group use shelter, outdoor washrooms, a ball field, playground, picnic tables and fire pit. The park has approximately 6 km of trails and is designated an Alberta Historical Resource to preserve the historic townsite foundations. The park is operated in cooperation with Bezanson Agricultural Society and a contract site security provider.
The Caretaker will be responsible for the complete park maintenance and, therefore, must enjoy working outdoors and with the public on a daily basis. The Caretaker must reside off-site, therefore reliable transportation and a valid Alberta vehicle operator’s license is required. Maintenance equipment is provided by the County. This contract is for a one-year term with possible extensions. Working alone legislation is in effect for this position. Compensation for the 2017 season is $5,000.
Caretaker duties will include; but are not limited to:
Campground and day use area cleaning, mowing, and maintenance, including the playground, picnic sites, campsites, and trails;
Cleaning and minor building maintenance and repair of all restrooms, the shelter, and all other facilities within the campground;
Managing public use while on site and serving as a representative of the County, and;
Reporting conditions, vandalism, required repairs and public feedback to the County.
The ideal candidate will possess:
An enthusiasm for working with the public on a daily basis;
An enjoyment of working outside and be able to perform heavy physical labour;
Proof of clean criminal record and child intervention record;
A class 5 Alberta vehicle operator’s license and an acceptable drivers abstract;
The ability to maintain confidentiality pursuant to FOIP and County policy;
Successfully complete all required training related to the duties and responsibilities.
