Gathers field and general information for preparation of detailed drawings for construction projects including: active transportation facilities, roads, culverts, buildings, ditches and bridges. Produces simple site plan layouts with basic direction from engineering staff.

  • Responsible to establish the technical civil aspects of a project and prepare plans, specifications and quantities for all projects as necessary. This includes layout and design for linear infrastructure including roads, intersections, drainage and roadside features, storm sewers and traffic control devices
  • Prepare or oversee roadway/highway design work using local/MTO or AASHTO standards: horizontal and vertical alignment, roadway sections, intersection layout and sight distance determination, interchange layout and right-of-way plans
  • Assisting with the preparation, updating and checking of project deliverables including General Arrangement drawings, detail drawings and design sketches in accordance with established quality procedures. Monitors and inspects tendered construction projects to ensure the quality of materials and workmanship.
  • Prepare documents to support payment to Contractors

Position: Draftsperson (Construction Inspector), Engineering

Position Summary:

  • Gathers field and general information for preparation of detailed drawings for construction

bridges. Produces simple site plan layouts with basic direction from engineering staff.

  • Interact with other County Departments/Government agencies/Utility Companies to gather

information needed for drawings of construction projects.

  • Assists Engineering Technician to layout and check entrance culverts, driveways and turning

lanes to reflect changes in site developments.

  • Assess highways for pavement condition ratings and prepare supporting documentation for

the Asset Management Plan and road rehabilitation program.

  • Perform intersection traffic counts and/or erect equipment to obtain daily speed / volume data

for analysis.

  • Attends meetings/seminars/courses
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a 3 year community college program with a diploma in / related to Civil

Engineering Technology

  • Must be proficient with AutoCad/Civil3D or other design software as appropriate.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of TAC Manual, MTO Geometrics Design Manual,

OPSS, OPSD and others is required.

  • Certified Engineering Technologist
  • Two to three years of related experience
  • Hold and maintain valid Ontario Class G license and access to personal vehicle for business

use

  • Able to inspect construction sites
  • Computer literacy in applicable engineering software
  • Police Information Check

Hours of Work:
32.5 hours per week. 7 hours per day, including ½ hour unpaid lunch, between the hours of 9:00
a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Salary:
$28.42 – 33.37 per hour
