Network Producer

Division: Radio

Location: Vancouver, BC

About the Role

Reporting to the Network Executive Producer, you will be responsible for producing the nationally syndicated radio show “Charles Adler Tonight” (7p-10p PT/ 10p-1a ET) for Corus’ seven News Talk radio stations, based in Vancouver. The show is a conversation with Canada that is story-driven, timely, authentic, personal and reflective of the news of the day. This position will require an individual who is organized, has an insatiable curiosity to learn, a passion for current affairs and the ability to develop and execute talk radio segments, live broadcasts, promotions, and special projects as assigned.

Responsibilities:

• Research news and current affairs stories for broadcast, social and digital media
• Create original story ideas and develop them for broadcast, social and digital media
• Book guests and set up programming debates and forums
• Provide an on-air presence (when applicable) on the show (debriefs, montages, reports, investigative series etc.)
• Develop a comprehensive contact list and program database
• Collaborate with the program host on content and program support issues
• Develop and produce special programming
• Editing of programming elements
• Prepare cover sheets, scripts and background notes
• Screen live callers with an ear to enhance on-air conversations
• Contribute to breaking news programming
• Collaborate with other producers on story development and dialogue
• Liaise with newsrooms across the country on developing stories
• Use social media effectively to grow audience
• Participate in production meetings
• Provide guidance and feedback to other news and technical staff involved in the production of a ‘live’ talk show
• Practice ethical principles of journalism
• Meet and exceed ratings expectations
• Perform other duties as required

About You

What We Need From You:

• Strong leadership skills, a self-starter with the ability to organize and create a dynamic late night show.
• Tenacious approach in convincing guests and news makers to join hosts on-air
• Creative thinking to approach the day’s stories with new questions and angles
• Excellent organizational, communication & interpersonal skills
• News experience, preferably in radio
• Strong and solid interviewing skills
• Ability to write for all media platforms
• Comprehensive knowledge of local and national news events
• Ability to select and frame topics for a national audience
• Expertise in audio editing
• Understanding of WordPress
• A proficiency with social media
• Creative, energetic, fun, outgoing, positive, friendly manner and team player
• Minimum three years of experience in a major market or equivalent preferred
