Responsibilities: We require a qualified individual to join the Student Life team as a Student Life Programmer (Co-Curricular Record and Engagement). The incumbent works collaboratively with team members to develop, deliver and evaluate programming that fosters student leadership and development, promotes community and civic engagement, supports student transition to College, and promotes inclusion and respect among community members.

  • Responsible, in collaboration with the Student Life and Co-Curricular Record (CCR) Coordinator, for assisting with and supporting the execution of Co-Curricular Record operations
  • Acts as first point of student contact for CCR developing and facilitating CCR training sessions for students and supporting CCR training for College employees as needed
  • Supports the development and enforcement of CCR policies, procedures and manuals/ documentation
  • Manages and oversees CCR inquires through email, telephone and in-person meetings
  • Provides administrative support such as data collection, analysis and reporting using the CCR software system
  • Coordinates the operations of the Student Life Centre Information Desk by recruiting, hiring, training, supervising and providing formal and informal feedback to a team of student employees
  • Addresses service disruptions (e.g. staff absence) as required
  • Maintains an operating manual, including systems for booking group work rooms, opening and closing procedures, etc.
  • Liaises with college stakeholders (including Conestoga Students Incorporated) to effectively communicate College activities and events taking place in the Student Life Centre
  • Maintains records and statistics; analyzes quantitative and qualitative statistical data; evaluates effectiveness of event(s) against defined outcomes
  • Problem-solves general concerns and questions related to the Information Desk
  • Responsible, in collaboration with the Student Life Team, develops, coordinates and executes cross College events and initiatives that support the Student Life strategic objectives
  • Liaises with internal and external service providers to establish and support event participation
  • Supports other Student Life initiatives as required, including: Event support (e.g. Orientation, Respect Campaign events, etc.); Connect and Respect workshop delivery and promoting Student Life initiatives during College events

Qualifications:

  • Three year diploma in Leadership, Community Development, Education, Student Development, Recreation, Social Work, Sociology or related field
  • Specific courses/seminars in Interpersonal Communication Training; Diversity Training; Leadership Development; Volunteer Management; Program Development and Evaluation
  • Three years of experience working individuals in a community development capacity, preferably within an educational setting
  • Experience advising, delegating, leading, motivating, supervising and coaching staff or volunteers
  • Experience working with diverse groups (as defined in the Human Rights Charter)
  • Experience in experiential workshop development and facilitation, specifically related to the topics of leadership and diversity
  • Experience in event planning and management
  • Demonstrated experience developing and facilitating co-curricular learning experiences and using co-curricular software systems to operationalize these experiences
  • Ability to facilitate discussions around diversity
  • Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution and diplomacy skills to develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong judgement, flexibility, adaptability, and written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to client service – specifically Conestoga students, staff and external contacts
  • Able to travel and work out of multiple locations – a G2 license is necessary
