The School of Health & Life Sciences and Community Services requires an individual with well-developed management skills to be accountable for development, implementation and continuous improvement of the Family of Nursing Programs that includes Personal Support Worker, Collaborative BScN and Practical Nursing. The Chair is the primary strategic and operational contact with the McMaster/Mohawk/Conestoga Consortium for the BScN Program. The Chair liaises with the Chair, Continuing Education & Specialty Programs related to delivery of Part-Time programs, as well as opportunities for post-diploma programs and continuing education courses. The Chair brings professional credentials as a BScN and as an educator, experience in nursing and in education, and creativity and initiative to this academic leadership position with expectations to champion growth and development of programming both to meet the changing needs of Nursing and to advance the College’s strategic expectations and operational management requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide Academic leadership for School and Department’s development and operation to achieve the vision and strategic plan of Conestoga College
  • Management of human resources for the portfolio for employee effectiveness and productivity
  • Strategic quality management that ensures continual improvement in quality and relevance of Portfolio and School operations
  • Strategic management of program offerings and learning materials to maintain quality and relevance and align with Provincial and College and Regulatory Body requirements
  • Strategic management to meet enrolment targets, while championing an environment focused on student success for high student retention, satisfaction and graduate capability
  • Management of financial and physical resources used by the Department for best use of College resources and to support strategic development
  • External stakeholder engagement to achieve industry, Divisional, School and College expectations

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Nursing or Education (PhD is considered an asset)
  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Minimum 7 years of supervisory experience with a track record of program leadership and development experience is required.
  • Teaching and/or administrative experience in Post-secondary education setting
  • Strategic capability to plan and implement operational change and on-going development
  • Conceptual and analytical ability, with the ability to express this both in writing and verbally in order to support expectations for program development and applied research
  • Excellent Interpersonal and communication skills
  • The ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students and external partners
