Reporting to the Chief, Engineering, the Engineering Assistant will undertake assigned development and design projects in the
civil engineering fields of structural, municipal, transportation and
environmental.

The

main tasks will involve:

Determining the client’s
requirements;

Preparing project briefs;

Carrying out engineering
studies and arranging for consultant assistance; and

Reporting on the progress of
various projects.

The incumbent may occasionally be required to manage the
implementation and construction of assigned projects.

The

occasional tasks will involve:

Arranging for tendering
action;

Supervising and inspecting
the contractor’s work; and

  • Ensuring the work is

completed in accordance with specifications and drawings.
REQUIREMENTS


Enrolled in an Engineering Program (such as: civil, structural,
mechanical, electrical, geotechnical, water resources or environmental) in an
accredited baccalaureate level and returning to full-time studies in the fall
2017; and

Must possess a valid driver’s license (Ontario:
Class G, Québec: Class 5) and
provide a good driver’s abstract.

EXPERIENCES,
SKILLS AND ABILITIES


Experience with computer software programs such as MS Office (Word,
Excel & Outlook) & AutoCAD;

Suitable interpersonal and communication skills;

Strong judgment and common sense;

Willingness to learn;

Ability to prioritize and meet multiple deadlines;

Ability to undertake and complete tasks either autonomously
or with supervision; and

  • Ability to interpret project specifications and

drawings.

CONDITIONS
OF EMPLOYMENT

Must be willing to work outdoors;

Must be comfortable working on construction sites for buildings
or heavy construction;

Must be able to enter sites, buildings and other
locations where access is limited (includes crawl spaces, remote locations,
high platforms, etc.);

Must be willing to work flexible hours including
weekdays, weekends and statutory holidays and occasional overtime; and

  • Must possess a pair of protective

footwear (construction boots approved by the Canadian Standards Association).

  • Fluently bilingual in both official languages.
