TITLE: Sports & Recreation Specialist (part of Program Staff)

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT Temporary/Contractual position. You must be available from June 1st on an “as required” by CCS basis for training programs and familiarize camp program. From June 29th to August 12th on the campsite fulfilling responsibilities.

You must complete the 60-hour Staff Training prior to camp. This will ensure that you are aware of good health and safety procedures. A member of the Leadership Team will supervise you on a daily basis. During camp, you will receive verbal feedback on a weekly basis as well as 2 written evaluations.


To sensitize and teach campers, 6-17 years old, about importance of physical recreation. To facilitate a group of campers in compliance with established policies, procedures, standards, and program expectations. To identify and meet camper needs providing a positive camp experience. To provide opportunities for campers to engage in physical activities, team sports and games as well as other recreational activities.


  • 18 years of age before July 1st of this year
  • Education and or experience in physical recreation (Asset)
  • Have a high physical and emotional comfort level with outdoor and community living
  • Desire and ability to work with children outdoors and indoors
  • Ability to relate to peers and accept guidance and supervision
  • Ability to teach and assist in various camp activities
  • Good character, integrity, adaptability, enthusiasm, sense of humor and patience
  • Professional appearance, well groomed.
  • Must have completed high school. Cegep or University is considered an asset.
  • Ideally perusing studies in: Physical Education, Education, Recreation, Leisure Science


  • Before camp starts, plan projects and assist the Camp Program Director in ordering supplies.
  • Set up appropriate sports area during staff training.
  • Teach staff their responsibilities in sport activities during training.
  • Teach all sports sessions for campers, adequately preparing in advance starting on time, and ensuring the proper use of equipment.
  • Conduct initial and end-of-summer inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Continually check equipment and be responsible for necessary repairs.
  • Clean and store all equipment after its final use of the day.
  • Be in constant search for new, creative projects.
  • Record and file a compilation of projects for future use.
  • Develop, plan and animate evening and special day programs with the Program Director and other program staff
  • Follow and encourage safety within all activity areas.
  • Maintain and respect the equipment and facilities.
  • Attend pre-camp training workshops, and regular staff meetings as required.
  • Set a good example for campers and others including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing cleanup, sportsmanship, and table manners.
  • Carry out established roles in enforcing camp safety regulations
  • Promote high camper morale.
  • Work with groups participating (age and skill level) and provide necessary instructions to campers
  • Assist in camp related activities as required.
  • Assist campers in the prevention of and in emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury)
  • Assume the role of cabin counselor when required
  • Help with the loading and unloading of buses
  • Work with program director to ensure maximum potential from sports activities
