POSITION SUMMARY:
The Content Writer will develop and create compelling content that reinforces, elevates and consistently reflects CODE’s mandate to support literacy and learning in Canada and around the world.

The incumbent will actively work across the organizations departments to partner and communicate with leadership, international partners, internal and external resources and interview sources, to develop content that is appropriate for and that recognizes the diverse and varied levels of existing and potential audiences.

JOB DUTIES:
Create and generate content rich materials that assume an authoritative yet creative engaging, inspirational and empowering voice.
Write audience appropriate content that will enhance CODE’s image and position amongst key stakeholders and the general public, within its three competitive sectors as a charity, international development agency and as a literacy/education organization.
Develop steady and effectively delivered audience-specific, targeted editorial content aimed to ignite engagement by inspiring action, dialogue, action, advocacy, participation as well as financial support.
Contribute in developing and executing an integrated content plan for print, digital media, program descriptions and up-dates.
Liaise with other members of CODE’s literacy network to acquire additional materials and content.
Conduct research to validate accurate and factual content.
Compile comprehensive reference lists and bibliographies for academic and evidence-based content.
Interview individuals, (internal colleagues, public and professional) to capture a relevant and timely story.
Accurately transform complex material into highly readable, detailed, and inspiring, content rich narratives for support. This includes, but is not limited to, work on grant proposals, monthly partner and donor updates, CODE’s Annual Report, newsletters, final reports, concept pieces, appeal letters, and collateral materials.
Strategize on and develop content updates from our international field programs and partners and to private partners on monthly and quarterly basis.
Review and correct written material to improve accuracy, readability, and fitness for its purpose, and to ensure that it is free of error, omission, inconsistency, and repetition.
Develop and maintain strong knowledge of CODE’s program areas.
Develop other written content for events, conferences, speaking engagements, etc., as needed.

KEY SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Exceptional writer and editor.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, collaboratively with a team, and to accept guidance and feedback.
Possess creativity and a demonstrated ability to write visually dynamic and content rich stories.
Ability to write persuasively, clearly, and concisely, and to seamlessly blend together information from multiple sources.
Be extremely organized and impeccably detail-oriented with ability to manage competing priorities and meet concurrent deadlines.
Demonstrated experience in adapting content to leverage social media for engagement and outreach efforts.
Preference for candidates with knowledge and understanding of international development, the education sector and non-profit communications experience.

REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the position, such as creative writing, journalism.
3+ years’ experience in a variety of writing, specifically development writing.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to ask clarifying questions, build rapport, maintain relationships, and respond with flexibility to unanticipated requests.
Superior command of the English language, spelling, grammar and syntax.
