MPACT (Innovative Models Promoting Access-to-Care Transformation) is a participatory research program funded from 2013 until 2018. Through this program, we aim to transform primary healthcare organisational structures to improve access to appropriate care for vulnerable populations resulting in reduced unmet needs, avoidable emergency department visits and avoidable hospitalisations for vulnerable populations. The program is actively promoting access to healthcare for vulnerable populations in three Canadian provinces (Quebec, Alberta and Ontario) and three Australian States (South Australia, New South Wales and Victoria). In its final year, the program will be focused on communications and knowledge dissemination activities.

The research communications coordinator will be responsible for facilitating and supporting all communication and content production activities for Canada. To a lesser extent, the role also involves daily administrative tasks such as coordinating teleconferences with Canadian stakeholders. The coordinator will be reporting directly to the nominated principal investigator for Canada, Dr. Jeannie Haggerty, based at St-Mary’s Research Center. The coordinator will have to develop and implement the knowledge transfer program and develop creative and effective transfer tools.
Main tasks:

  • Design and develop communication materials for different media (print, web, social network, etc.) adapted to the target audience;
  • Implement a knowledge transfer program of activities: Scientific conferences, outreach to different stakeholders, networking activities, dissemination of results and training tools promotion for use in the community, etc.;
  • Support tools to enhance the visibility and the program’s outreach:
  • Website – www.impactresearchprogram.com
  • Newsletter
  • Twitter account (@IMPACT_PHC)
  • Contribute to the production of presentations, reports, policy briefs and articles for publication;
  • Monitor all program communication outputs.

Other tasks :

  • Participates actively in the planning and coordination of the IMPACT program;
  • Organises teleconferences or face-to-face meetings;
  • Records and distributes minutes.
Requirements :
  • Postgraduate degree in social sciences, public health or communication;
  • Familiarity with approaches and tools for knowledge transfer;
  • Writing experience in scientific articles, research reports and policy briefs is an asset.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills especially in English;
  • Experience in the design, writing and production of simplified scientific content;
  • Skill in knowledge transfer activities;
  • Ease of use and learning of computer tools;
  • Ability to adapt and cope with possible unexpected events;
  • Have a sense of initiative and good judgement.

The position requires a good capacity to deal effectively with uncertainty and schedule flexibility, both managing the program timeline and working hours. Time zone difference with Australia has an impact on meeting times, especially during Canadian summer. It should be noted that most communications are done using English.
