Job Profile

Reporting to the Transportation Facilities Planning Engineer, the Streets Planning Engineer is responsible for preliminary and detailed geometric design services, route and functional planning of new transportation facilities, identifying right-of-way for acquisition and disposition, and traffic noise assessment.
As the Streets Planning Engineer you will: Develop and review the route/functional plans for new transportation facilities. Develop, review and authorize detailed geometric designs for new transportation facilities and improvements to existing facilities. Review and authorize the geometric and roadside safety designs of all transportation system Capital projects. Coordinate the acquisition and disposition of right-of-way. Conduct, review, and authorize traffic noise studies for residential developments. Provide leadership and supervision of junior staff.
Your education and qualifications include: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering. A Master’s Degree in Transportation Planning or related field is considered an asset. Experience with geometric design of transportation facilities. Experience developing route and functional planning for new transportation facilities. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders (co-workers, consultants, councillors, members of the public, etc.) Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong presentation skills with the ability to present information to a variety of audiences. Proficiency with computer software including AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to manage a varied workload and adjust with changing priorities. Ability to apply sound judgement and demonstrate political acumen. Knowledge of, and ability to apply, local and national technical guidelines and standards appropriately. Experience conducting traffic noise studies is an asset. Knowledge of roadside safety design is an asset.
Conditions of employment: Registered (or eligible for registration) with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM). Must have and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s licence.
Must be able to provide a vehicle for transportation while on City business subject to the terms and conditions of the City of Winnipeg Transportation Policy.

The salary range for this position is $73,799.08 – $99,127.21 annually .
