The Accountant 1 is responsible for professional accounting, financial management and budget work as well as Finance Department duties, which include projects, studies, operations and communications of some complexity in a deadline driven and fast paced environment. Work is assigned, supervised and reviewed periodically by a professional supervisor.

Scope
This position will support the Property & Payment Services Section within the Finance Department. Duties would include the preparation of budgets, corporate plans and studies; controls, monitors, analyzes and reports on budgeted versus actual revenues and expenditures; provides professional accounting services such as audits, studies, reconciliations and reports; prepares year end reports and assists with the preparation of financial statements and makes ongoing recommendations for operational improvements in all areas of City operations.

Requirements
Applicants must have effective communication skills both orally and in writing, work both independently and in a collaborative team environment, as well as plan, organize and coordinate assignments. Thorough working knowledge of PC and computer applications; good analytical and summarization skills; thorough accounting knowledge, including fund accounting is required. Working knowledge of the Local Government Act, Community Charter and business law are an asset as well as being familiar with both the Tempest Taxation System and the Financial Management System.

You are in your final year of a Professional Accounting Designation (CA, CMA, CGA), and have a minimum of one year’s directly related experience or an equivalent combination of university degrees and experience.
