Permit Administration Technician

  • Certified Architectural/Civil Engineering Technologist or a post-secondary degree/diploma in a related discipline with minimum 5 years’ experience in the building design or construction field
  • Minimum three years’ experience with a Municipal Building Department/Division is an asset
  • Familiarity with architectural, structural, and mechanical drawings for all buildings and the ability to assess completeness and acceptability of application package in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Strong customer service skills required
  • Must have a working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code Act and Regulations as it relates to the administration of permits
  • Must be accurate and detail-oriented
  • Must have experience assessing zoning compliance with municipal by-laws; experience with Mississauga Zoning By-law as and regulations would be considered an asset.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills to deal effectively with the general public, contractors, developers, staff and others interested in the building permit process
  • Qualifies and maintains qualifications of an Inspector as referenced in Division C Section 3.1.4 of the Ontario Building Code in the related categories: Legal Process for CBO, House, Small Buildings is a definite asset
  • Superior computer skills with the ability to utilize a variety of computer based applications effectively


Reporting to the Supervisor, Customer Service Centre, the successful candidate will be the located at the Planning & Building Customer Service Centre and will be part of a customer service team responsible for the intake and issuance of all building permit, sign permit, and certificate of occupancy applications. The successful candidate will utilize their exceptional customer service skills in combination with technical knowledge to educate customers navigating the process and ensuring expeditious processing of their application.

  • Review application submissions for compliance with the Building Code Act, and applicable regulations in Division A and C in conjunction with the application and issuance of building permits
  • Act as the Review Coordinator in accepting and processing building permit, sign permit, and certificate of occupancy applications in accordance with established procedures, includes physical and electronic submissions
  • Issue all applications in accordance with established procedures and ensure all approvals of documentation, signatures and fees have been obtained prior to permit issuance
  • Calculate and collect all application fees in accordance with established procedures
  • Engage the Plans Examiners and Planner when presented with more complex Building Code or Zoning By-law inquiries or to resolve outstanding issues related to the customer’s application
  • Work cooperatively and effectively with others within work unit, other sections and across departments in facilitating permit application acceptance and issuance
  • Ensure that duties are carried out in a manner consistent with established policies and procedures in the Division/Department and the Corporation
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Hours of Work: 35 hour per week

Salary: $57,373 – $76,498
