Part Time Parking Enforcement Officers

Reporting to the Supervisor, Parking Enforcement the successful candidate will enforce the City of Mississauga traffic (Traffic, Fire, Accessible and Idling) by-laws by issuing parking infraction notices throughout Mississauga through the use of a hand-held computer system

  • Operate city owned vehicle during assigned patrols of City
  • Respond to complaints received from residents, Council members and staff related to parking infractions and situations in dispute ensuring maximum effectiveness in conflict resolution
  • Assist other Parking Enforcement Officers with conflicts or inquiries; alert and inform senior management, Peel Regional Police on unusual incidents such as identifying stolen vehicles or other criminal activity during patrols; educate and provide information to members of the public and staff concerning the traffic by-laws and policies for the City
  • Direct and co-ordinate the removal of vehicles by the City’s towing contractors in accordance with the traffic by-laws and the City’s contract
  • Present evidence in the Ontario Court (Provincial Division) as required
  • Prepare and submit occurrence reports to supervisory staff and where necessary responses to Councillor inquiries
  • Maintain vehicle, computer equipment, uniform and other issued equipment in accordance with corporate and departmental standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What you need to bring to this job

Part Time Parking Enforcement Officers

  • Graduate of Law and Security/Police Foundations/Municipal Law Enforcement/Public Investigation or other Enforcement related program at a Community College is required
  • 1-2 years Parking Enforcement experience is preferred
  • 1 year Enforcement related experience is preferred
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certificate is preferred
  • Knowledge of the City’s Parking enforcement by-laws and Provincial Offences Act, Part II is preferred.
  • Work experience with writing Administrative Penalty Notices is an asset.
  • Work experience writing / issuing Part I POA is preferred
  • Experience in presenting evidence in court is preferred
  • Experience in coaching and training others is an asset
  • Must hold a valid class “G” Licence with a driving record in good standing and acceptable to the City. A Driver’s Abstract will be required;
  • Excellent oral communication skills essential with demonstrated ability to resolve disputes in a manner which supports our client driven integrated service delivery mandate
  • Demonstrated ability to work productively with members of the public, external agencies, elected officials and other city staff; tact and diplomacy to competently handle confrontational situations
  • Be a results-oriented individual who strives for continuous improvement that encourages simplification.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as support a team approach in the unit, use sound judgement and make appropriate business decisions
  • Computer literacy and demonstrated administrative skills including excellent writing ability to prepare detailed activity reports, internal and external correspondence is required
  • This position works 10hr shifts that provide 24 hour coverage; including weekends and holidays in accordance with established service levels. Availability is required across all shifts (days / afternoons / nights) and there will be no guarantee of hours.
  • A clear vulnerable criminal record certificate is required of the successful candidate, at their own expense to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a records suspension has not been granted.

Note: These are part time positions

Hourly rate: $32.08 – $42.77
