Community Development Assistant (Part-time)

(Part-time up to 21 hours per week starting September 2015, ending March 31, 2017)


  • Enrolled in or have completed post or secondary degree or diploma in the field of recreation, community development, social services, or have equivalent work experience including program/event management and community/volunteer development.
  • Knowledge and experience related to City of Mississauga’s Older Adult Plan, Age Friendly Cities and community development
  • Demonstrated leadership, team building and strong interpersonal skills required
  • Highly motivated self-starter with excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to establish effective working and community relationships and excellent customer service skills
  • Knowledge of and experience with working with local agencies, community groups and businesses.
  • Ability to develop internal relationships with Recreation, Libraries, Parks, Culture and other City divisions
  • Ability to work in a changing environment; proficient computer skills in word, excel, CLASS, power point, social media and other City software necessary.


Under the direction of the Community Development Coordinator (older Adult) the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting an assigned portfolio that will accelerate the City’s efforts to achieve “Age Friendly Community Designation from the World Health Organization and other strategic priorities of the Community Development Unit. Key responsibilities will include:

Under the direction of the Community Development Coordinator (Older Adult) the successful candidate will focus on developing working relationships with community partners and City divisions to implement the Age Friendly City Action Plan.

  • To create and complete a self-assessment tool to determine Mississauga’s Age Friendly Cities status.
  • To assist with the renewal of the existing 2009 City of Mississauga’s Older Adult Plan.
  • To assist with the creation of the AFC Action Plan implementation.
  • To assist with the formation of the 8 (eight) AFC dimension action teams and assist to ensure the teams are delivering on the priorities set.
  • To participate in Older Adult Advisory Panel and Community Centre Older Adult Committees as required.
  • To assist with the formation and delivery of the Action Plan communication plan.
  • Other activities and projects as assigned.

Note: This is a contract up to 18 months

Hours of Work: 21 hour per week

Hourly Rate: $24.35 – $32.46
