We are now receiving applications for the above temporary contract position in the Culture and Economic Development Department, Development Services Commission. The duration of the contract is dependent on the return of the incumbent to the position and is expected to last up to 5 months. You are encouraged to apply on line at www.markham.ca

Reporting to the Manager, Markham Small Business Centre, you will promote small business programs and services and provide counselling services to aspiring and existing small business entrepreneurs.

Performs administrative duties a minimum of 60% of workday.
Provides information to small businesses and provides instructions for preparation of simple business plans.
Responds to small business inquiries.
Delivers education training programs on small business topics, and responsible for all aspects of events management.
Coordinates and implements Enterprise Centre marketing plans.
Provides input and assemble Enterprise Centre’s annual business plan including the analysis and consolidation of data.
Conducts annual customer surveys, workshop/event evaluation surveys.
Assists in delivery of government programs including but not limited to the Summer company Program and the Secondary School Business Plan Competition. Providing guidance to youths in developing a business plan.
Maintains an inventory of resources material relevant to small business.
Coordinates seminars and workshops and responsible for events management.
Responsible for front line client inquiries.
Supports City corporate and Economic development initiatives.
Attends regional meetings.
Back fills for Manager in his/her absence.

Qualifications:

Relevant University Degree. Marketing background is an asset.
3 years business experience.
Knowledge and experience in developing and critiquing business plans.
Working knowledge of regulatory requirements for business start-ups in Ontario.

Must be willing and available to work flexible hours including one weekend and several evenings per month.
Valid Ontario Class G Drivers Licence. As a condition of employment, you will be required to provide a satisfactory drivers abstract. Access to personal vehicle for business purposes required.

Second language is an asset.
