As the Communications and Research Coordinator, you will play a key role in the planning, development, and implementation of a strategic communications plan for the Community Social Development (CSD) department. You will also be responsible for research, analysis, advisory consultation, and preparation of materials that will be used by CSD to evaluate/ monitor program delivery, events, initiatives, and marketing.

Main responsibilities

The Communication and Research Coordinator plays a key role in the Community Social Development’s success.

You are involved in day-to-day communications activities internally and externally to ensure residents, community partners, and other stakeholders receive the timely and accurate information they seek. You will be responsible for ensuring that CSD is able to educate and provide awareness on social issues, highlight successes, and promote the resources offered in our community. You are an integral role for developing CSD’s brand.

You develop top-level copy for all communications vehicles including media releases, publications, the website, social media and advertising. You will work very closely with CSD staff, the City’s Communications and Citizen Engagement Department and other stakeholders to develop and promote innovative awareness campaigns, events, and other engagement opportunities, with a focus on addressing social issues.

Your strong background in communications and knowledge of Canadian Press Style Standards allows you to share best practices with colleagues at the department level. You are creative, and look for unique ways to market and disseminate information to the public.

You are skilled at producing high quality graphics design, photography, and digital storytelling. You possess strong computer skills, including demonstrated capabilities with Microsoft Office Suite. Desktop publishing experience with the Adobe Creative Suite would be an asset. You are adept at writing in all styles and oral communication.

You have experience in conducting research, evaluating initiatives to demonstrate outcomes, and have strategies to measure impacts and report successes.

Your interpersonal skills enable you to develop and maintain strong working relationships internally and externally. You are very passionate about community building and want to be a part of dynamic team!

Qualifications

One to three years’ experience in a communications role.

Demonstrated experience in doing research within the community development context is preferred.

Post-secondary education in Public Relations, Communications, Business Administration, Journalism, or equivalent experience

Municipal communications experience considered an asset

8:30am to 4:30pm. May be some evening work to attend meetings and events.

Salary / Wage

$27.54 to $33.52
