We are looking for an enthusiastic and customer-service focused professional with demonstrated experience in strategizing, leading and managing high-profile events and hosting opportunities to lead the City of Edmonton’s Protocol Team, a critical part of the Reputation Unit within Corporate Communications. You will lead a team of 3 individuals and work closely with members of the Unit, as well as others across the Corporation, to further advance Edmonton’s reputation and relationships with stakeholders. Through your participation in the organization of high profile events, conferences and dignitary visits, as well as protocol functions, you will play a major role in shaping and positioning the perception of the City of Edmonton in the community and externally. As a valued member of Corporate Communications, you will have the opportunity to grow your experience by working with multiple stakeholders

internally and externally

and contribute to building a collaborative, innovative and strategic Corporate Communications team. In addition you will:

Support the Mayor and Council, City Manager and General Managers in advancing and protecting the City of Edmonton’s reputation through supporting the delivery of world-class events, conferences and protocol activities

Develop annual plans that align with overall corporate objectives related to the City’s reputation and support intergovernmental external relations objectives

Identify opportunities to showcase the City and enhance relationship building efforts with stakeholders (such as other governments, visiting dignitaries, local military community, major event partners, etc.)

Ensure compliance with protocol standards and practices

Lead and manage staff on the delivery of high quality initiatives that yield positive impact and help advance the City of Edmonton’s image and reputation

Integrate City’s messaging, positioning and branding in protocol activities

Qualifications

:

University graduation in a communications, public relations or related field, supplemented by a minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible experience in a designated protocol, public relations or public affairs position which includes at least 2 years experience in a similar organization

OR

Diploma in a communications, public relations or related field, supplemented by a minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible experience in a designated protocol, public relations or public affairs position which includes

at

least 2 years experience in a similar organization

Demonstrated success in working with political and administrative leaders, advising on protocol standards and opportunities for advancing the reputation of the City of Edmonton and Edmonton

Extensive knowledge in protocol standards and practices

Experienced in supporting the delivery of high-profile, world-class events

Solid experience in building and managing a high-performance team

Proven client consultation and relationship building skills

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handling multiple demands at the same time with style and grace

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week Monday- Friday, flexibility required to work outside of normal hours of operation including evenings and weekends when required
