This is for up to 7 Temporary Full-Time positions that may continue for up to 8 months in duration, intended specifically for students currently enrolled in a Planning Undergraduate Degree co-op program, commencing in May 2015.

The City of
Edmonton’s Sustainable Development Department concentrates on planning and
executing for the development needs of today and the future. We are comprised
of the following Branches – Current Planning, Urban Planning and Environment,
Real Estate, Housing and Economic Sustainability.

The

Urban Planning and Environment
Branch

has the following key areas: regional planning, neighbourhood
planning, industrial planning, policy planning, transit oriented development
planning, urban design, historic resource management, biodiversity, parks and
river valley planning, environmental management, GIS services and analysis,
strategic planning and business operations.

You will have an

opportunity to:
Provide support to the planning team on a variety of
projects

Assist with statistical analysis of data and information

Conduct research on current developing plans and other
topics for Planners

Assist in the development of urban planning and design initiatives through project work, report writing, research and studio work

Collect and compile data for branch initiatives

Assist in the planning and execution of public engagement activities ranging from open houses to design charrettes

Support the Planning Team through logistical and technical support on a wide range of activities and events

Other supportive duties as assigned

Qualifications

:

Currently enrolled in an Undergraduate Planning, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture Co-op Degree Program

Knowledge of principles and practices of urban and regional planning is ideal

Familiarity with reading building plans, applicable legislations, regulatory requirements, statistical techniques, quantitative analysis and research methodology is considered an asset

Proficient with Google Mail and Microsoft Office

Experience with GIS is considered an asset

Good communicator with strong organization and prioritization skills

Strong motivation and desire to learn and grow in the field of Planning

  • Please note, at the time of your interview, you will need to provide an unofficial transcript, 2 professional references, and an enrollment verification letter (indicate you are enrolled in the Planning Co-op Degree Program, how many academic terms left till graduation, and intention to return to school in 2015 after your co-op placement ends)

Hours of Work:
33.75 hours per week, Monday – Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program.

Salary Range:
82M, Salary Grade 033, $20.050- $23.391 (Hourly)
