This is for 1 Temporary Full-Time position that may continue for 4 months in duration, intended specifically for students currently enrolled in an Occupational Health and Safety co-op or related post-secondary work experience program, commencing in May 2015.
Facility Maintenance Services enhances the livability of the city for all Edmontonians by maintaining over 900 facilities utilized by the City of Edmonton. As an Occupational Health and Safety Work Experience Student, you’ll gain experience and be responsible for the following activities:
Research and present at Safety Meetings
Update existing asbestos management plan and database
Help write safety policies and procedures for Facility Maintenance Services
Update safety training records and notify staff of upcoming safety training
Conduct on-site building inspections to assess the condition of asbestos-containing materials
Assist in identifying and addressing safety concerns within the Facility Maintenance Services Section

Qualifications
:
Currently enrolled in an Occupational Health and Safety co-op degree program or equivalent post-secondary work experience program
Completion of at least 2
semesters of a post-secondary Occupational Health and Safety Program or at least four of the core courses from the University of
Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Certificate Program
Completion of occupational
hygiene theory course
Working knowledge of the Alberta
Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code
Strong organizational skills
and attention to detail
Excellent interpersonal and
written communication skills
Ability to research, interpret
and synthesize information
Excellent teamwork skills as
well as the ability to work independently
Proficiency with
Microsoft Excel and Word
Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a personal vehicle
Knowledge and experience with
Microsoft Access and Google Docs are assets
The successful candidate will be required to obtain a satisfactory Edmonton Police Service Police Information Check Certificate from the Police Information Check Section located at #108, 14315 118 Avenue. This can usually be obtained with only a single visit to the Police Information Check Section
- Please note, at the time of your interview, you will need to provide an unofficial transcript, 2 professional references, and an enrollment verification letter (indicating you are enrolled in a coop or related post-secondary work experience program, how many academic terms left until graduation, and intention to complete your degree)
Hours of Work:
40 hours per week, Monday – Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and
conditions of variable hours of work program
