Field Systems Seasonal Survey Technician I 11 months Job Number : 32383
The Business Planning and Support Branch is seeking candidates open to challenging opportunities that display vast surveying and leadership experience. Working in the Surveying section, you will be responsible for supervising a field survey crew and planning and coordinating surveys in an efficient and effective manner in accordance with established legislation, procedures and accuracy standards.

Specific duties include:
Lead survey crew in survey activities and ensure assigned survey projects are completed on time, accurately, within applicable standards, and are consistent with design and construction of civic infrastructure
Plan, organize, and coordinate survey projects (i.e. construction layout surveys, preliminary design surveys, control surveys, and as-built surveys)
Consult with Survey Technicians, Engineers, Designers, Consultants and Survey Supervisors to establish project deliverables
Perform survey calculations and measurements to ensure correctness of completed work by using computers and survey equipment, level, total station, GPS and various field data units
Supervise survey staff, train and mentor, solve any problems, ensure safe operations, and document daily hazard assessment and incidents reports in OH&S System
All work is to be performed in accordance with the Branch’s Occupational Health and Safety Program and Enviso Environmental Program – ISO 14001
Other duties as required

Qualifications :
Completion of a 2 year diploma in Geomatics or Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized post-secondary institute
Minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible, relevant, all-season road survey experience, including experience leading survey crews; Those with 2 to less than 4 years experience may be considered at the Opportunity Concept level
Demonstrated ability to perform field survey activities in all weather, traffic and construction conditions, including extensive walking and physical duties
Thorough understanding of the survey principles and techniques common to the City of Edmonton’s survey requirements
Strong leadership and problem solving skills
Proficient in Microstation software, Trimble Access, and Landscape software
Ability to analyze and record survey data using computer and survey equipment software
Effective communication skills (written and verbal)
Ability to multitask and achieve accurate and timely results
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver’s permit is a requirement of this position

Salary: $34.784 – $43.721 (Hourly); Opportunity Concept: $26.577 – $31.909 (Hourly)
