The City of Corner Brook is presently accepting applications for the position of Events Coordinator with the Corner Brook Civic Centre.

Reporting to the General Manager, this position will serve as the first point of contact for the majority of events that take place at the Corner Brook Civic Centre and will be responsible for the overall coordination of all public/private events that take place in the building and adjoining property. This position will establish and maintain close contact with representatives of all levels of cliental that use space and/or facilities of the Civic Centre and ensure that these customers have all reasonable facility resources available to help ensure a successful event.

The Events Coordinator will be responsible for scheduling all routine bookings and space rentals and ensuring that the applicable contracts/agreements are in place prior to the event date.

Duties: Duties will include but not be limited to: Overseeing the coordination of events including conferences, seminars, dinners and training. The events coordinator will be responsible for liaising with all levels of cliental (promoters, individuals, groups, representatives, etc.) regarding matters related to the use of building space and/or resources. The successful candidate will oversee and direct building staff to ensure that the requirements of the client are met in an acceptable manner and time frame. The events coordinator will also be responsible for maintaining a database of vendors and service providers (ie, caterers, decorators, hotel contacts, transportation companies, entertainment, etc.) in the Corner Brook area that can be made available to prospective cliental. The coordinator will ensure that all facility promotional material is current, accurate and made easily available to interested persons, groups and promoters. The events coordinator will be responsible for ensuring event set-up and take-down needs of the client are met in a timely matter. The successful candidate will coordinate the use of multiple areas of the building with multiple user groups, research and recommend reasonable and competitive rental rates for building space and resources. The coordinator will carry out post event analysis, produce reports on events which include obstacles and opportunities encountered and follow up and evaluate with clients after events to ensure satisfaction and/or address any unresolved matters.

Qualifications: Successful candidates must possess a degree in Business, Marketing, Public Relations or related field supplemented with a minimum of two years of supervisory work experience in events coordination and/or promotion. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. This position requires strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and well versed in the use of various computer software packages such as Excel, Word, Cad, and Outlook. The successful candidate must be able to provide a clean certificate of conduct and have a valid NL Class 05 driver’s licence.
