As a Junior Identification Technician in the Investigative Support Section, you will use various measurements or processes to establish the identity of criminals. Specific duties include:

Obtain fingerprints, palm prints, mug shot photographs and descriptive information of all persons charged with Indictable Offences under the Criminal Code of Canada.

Provide analysis and comparison of fingerprints for confirmation of identity, and comparison of friction ridge impressions for suspect identification purposes.

Collect DNA samples from individuals convicted of designated offences.

Conduct fingerprint searches (tenprint and latent) on Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS).

Distribute criminal records and various other identification notifications.

A High School diploma or equivalency (e.g., GED) plus one year experience working in a law enforcement environment.

Must have experience with fingerprinting, and recent tasking and workflow experience with Sentry or Niche-based Record Management Systems (RMS), experience with Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) and other police information systems.

Must be eligible to obtain Community Peace Officer status under the Alberta Police Act

Experience dealing with police personnel, persons charged with criminal offences, incarcerated persons and difficult persons in general is an asset.

Ability to make the best use of time and resources; excellent communication skills; relationship building, team building and teamwork skills; and ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Compensation: Pay Grade 7 $31.25 – 41.81 per hour
(2017 rates)
Days of Work: This position works 4 days per week;
10 hours each day and will potentially work rotating
24/7 basis
Hours of work: A non-standard 40 hour work week
