This is working level public education work of moderate complexity related to delivering and promoting community crime prevention programs in support of the RCMP Crime Reduction Strategy (CRS) in the City of Burnaby. An employee of this class conducts security assessments of properties and drafts detailed reports for review by a superior and provides information in the form of workshops, meetings and liaison with a variety of community partners as well as RCMP and City employees. Considerable independence of judgement and action is exercised within departmental policies and procedures with difficult or unusual problems referred to a superior.

Qualifications include completion of the 12th school grade supplemented by some post-secondary training in criminology or related field, plus considerable related experience, including some experience in promoting a community based program, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the objectives, principles and procedures of the RCMP Crime Reduction Strategy, Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design Principles as well as crime prevention programs in the City; of the methods and practices used in conducting safety assessments related to the work and the principles of the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design philosophy; of of business English for the purposes of drafting reports and proposals. Ability to conduct safety assessments, draft detailed reports on findings and make related recommendations; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts including community partners, special interest groups, police members, and members of the public; provide work direction to a small group of volunteers and/or practicum students. Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required. This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance.
