AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Engineering, this position will perform various roles during the project management process for capital projects and special technical studies related to stormwater engineering This position will provide direction and technical guidance toto the City’s technical staff in in preparation of design drawings, execution of inspections of stormwater management infrastructure, streambank erosion monitoring and other similar works within the core Environmental Engineering program areas (including stormwater management, flood control, watercourse management and lake management). The Project Engineer, Stormwater will also provide advice and guidance to all divisions for issues related to the environment. A strong understanding of current legislation and emerging science is a requirement of this position. Within this legislative framework, this position will drive innovative solutions within the City.

Provides advice, guidance and technical leadership to support staff of designers, surveyors, construction inspectors, landscape architects, maintenance staff and planning staff. Provides professional engineering consultation.

Manages and/or assists with projects by undertaking SWM studies, formulating designs, preparing schedules, guiding technical staff in the collection of all pre-engineering data and analysis.
Review subwatershed and other environmental studies in conjunction with Official Plan Reviews and Secondary Plan studies, establishes effective protocols and terms of reference for such studies, and coordinates the process of selecting/monitoring consultants.
Review environmental assessment reports and provide advice to consultants who are writing these reports.
Provide effective input into external environmental studies in order to establish reasonable environmental priorities and to safeguard long term City interests.
Assemble and maintain environmental inventories and an environmental data base
Review Stormwater Management Reports to ensure reports comply with the Environmental Implementation Report and Subwatershed Study.
Review pond design to ensure compliance with the Ministry of the Environment and City of Brampton design guidelines.
Conducts job duties with a focus on health and safety, responsible economics and environmental protection..
Obtains all project approvals from Government bodies and various agencies.
Assists in the preparation of annual project budget by preparing cost estimate of projects including cost of engineering, design, inspection, surveying, utility relocation, construction and related costs.
Assists in the preparation of contract documents for tender call, arranges the award of the contract, certifies contract payments and certifies the satisfactory completion of stormwater rehabilitation projects.
Provides design services for the Engineering section and other City departments.
Liaises with other City Departments on stormwater projects and duties of joint interest and for specific input.
Advises and assists other Civil Engineers and other Professionals regarding Municipal Engineering matters throughout the City.

SELECTION CRITERIA:
Degree in Civil, Environmental or Water Resources Engineering or related discipline.
Registered as a Professional Engineer with Professional Engineers of Ontario.
5-7 years practical experience in municipal or private sector environment.
Supervisory experience with technical staff;
Knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health, Safety Act and Construction Regulations.
Highly developed project management skills, able to handle multiple priorities and work with deadlines.
Outstanding interpersonal skills with an ability to deal effectively with multiple stakeholders; demonstrated sound conflict resolution skills and ability to function within teams.
Excellent communication skills both oral and written. Solid report writing, presentation and negotiation skills.
Knowledge of legislation, policies procedures and practices relevant to water management.
Valid, non-probationary Ontario Class G driver’s license.
