As part of the IT Emerging Solutions department, this position will be responsible for driving detailed-level analysis and strategic advice. The prime requirement of this position is to act as the pivotal link between the business units and the project ensuring that business/user requirements are understood and articulated for enhancements and the implementation for one of the City’s enterprise solutions. This position promotes business analysis awareness, leadership, functional consultation and guidance in the use of the business analysis methodology and tools, and actively participates in continuous improvement to the process.

The Opportunity:

Supporting a Senior Leadership endorsed corporate IT project, this position will:

  • Work with key stakeholders within all business functions to align technology solutions with business strategies
  • Organize and facilitate requirement gathering and validation workshops, and translate those to the project team
  • Document, analyze and manage business requirements
  • Work closely with project stakeholders and end users to prepare use cases
  • Work closely with the project’s steering committee to promote industry best practices
  • Interview stakeholders to capture current state processes and identify inefficiencies and issues with processes
  • Create and validate enhanced future state processes
  • Work closely with the project stakeholders, technical team and vendor to facilitate the development of the business requirements to solution design
  • Provide input into project-specific change management including stakeholder assessment and communication plans for each department
  • Prepare test strategies, plans, and test cases to ensure they adequately cover the defined business requirements
  • Facilitate and gain sign off on user acceptance testing
  • Prepare training documentation and deliver solution training to all stakeholder groups
  • Support end users with business process changes
  • Act as the liaison between the business departments and IT

You Bring:

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in Business, IT or related discipline
  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience as a Business Analyst in Information Technology software projects
  • Experience implementing public sector ERP solutions would be an asset
  • Experience implementing Portal Solutions would be an asset
  • Experience with process re-engineering would be an asset
  • Knowledge of and experience with Business Analysis Methodologies (e.g. BABoK) would be an asset
  • Knowledge of and experience with Change Management Methodologies (e.g. Prosci) would be an asset
  • Knowledge of and experience with Project Management Methodologies (e.g. PMBoK) would be an asset
  • Familiarity with a municipal government setting would be an asset
  • Experience working with CityView would be an asset
  • Results-focused and a self-starter, with demonstrated strong organizational skills
  • Above average communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to establish effective, collaborative working relationships and an ability to build trust with staff across all levels of the organization
  • Ability to adapt well in an ever-changing environment
  • Work independently with minimal supervision in a team environment
  • Keen interest and aptitude in preparing analytical documentation (diagramming, flowcharts, analysis, findings, recommendations, reports, presentations)
  • Strong oral and written presentation skills
  • Ability to see the big picture and broader implications of issues/solutions

  • Ability to simplify and convey complex business/technology concepts to clients

Additional Information:

This position’s initial focus will be on the City of Airdrie’s, CityView enterprise solution implementation.

We are looking to fill 1 full-time (37.5 hours per week) 16-month term position.
