Business Unit Information:
Bert Church Live Theatre is currently recruiting for a Performing Arts University Student to take on the role of Assistant Day Camp Programmer to plan and supervise the summer drama and musical theatre day camps. This role will be responsible to create the required syllabus and outcomes for the performing arts camps and create sustainability for future camps. The successful candidate will be a Performing Arts University Student with experience performing in both musical theatre and dramatic productions.

Primary Accountabilities Include:
• Develop the syllabus and outcomes for the drama and musical theatre camp including lesson plans for each week
• Research and determine what musicals would be appropriate for each group and take the necessary steps to secure the scripts (each camp would have a different script to allow the children to register for multiple camps)
• Develop the choreography for each camp (both drama and musical camps)
• Work with the BCT Theatre Technician to develop tech workshops for each camp to teach sound and lighting skills
• Develop exercises for skill development in acting, cooperation, audition and prop development
• Develop exercises to focus on singing and confidence skill development
• Develop the schedule for the camp’s theatre times, swim times/days and if possible with the support of Genesis Place Recreation Centre (GP), and outdoor activities etc.
• Work with the other assistant programmers at Genesis Place to maximize space utilization at BCT (promote the use of the lobby, multipurpose room, and theatre for other camps if available)
• Train two leaders assigned to the creative arts camps
• Complete informal coaching and mentoring to the creative arts day camp team
• Once the day camps start, it is expected that the Assistant Day Camp Programmer act as the Artistic Director and participate as the lead instructor for the programs to ensure consistency in the delivery of the camps

Education/Experience Requirements:
• Post-secondary enrollment in a qualified drama and/or musical theatre program
• 2 years of experience acting in various theatrical/musical theatre roles
• Experience in leading camps or programs to children between the ages of 7-12
• Technical and practical training at an advanced level in one or more of the following disciplines: live performance, dance, musical theatre, movement, voice
• Knowledge of specific performing arts techniques including scene breakdown, interpretation of story line, blocking, text analysis, and improvisation
• Knowledge of program planning
• Demonstrated experience developing, organizing, and carrying out both regular daily and special programs
• Experience working with a team and the ability to foster a strong team environment within the camp
• Standard First Aid – Level C CPR & AED, or the willingness to obtain by the time the programs start
• Experience with vocal coaching is an asset

Additional Information:
This position is a full time summer term from May to the end of August.
