Job Overview

CIBC Strategic Initiatives – Digital (SI Digital) is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated professional with experience in content management, writing and editing for the web. As an Editorial Specialist, you will be responsible for developing, writing, editing and proofreading content intended for the mobile applications, online banking, CIBC.com and sites for affiliate/subsidiary banking services.

You will work closely with the Manager, Editorial to create and maintain editorial standards for SI Digital, ensuring fully optimized content is created while maintaining a consistent tone and voice. You will also work closely with the Manager, Editorial to effectively deliver a cohesive and compelling user experience, improve client fulfillment and use SEO tactics (developed by the Digital Strategy team) to increase traffic to the sites. You will work closely with the project team to ensure timely delivery of accurate and concise content.

What You’ll Be Doing
Manage all facets of the editorial process on a day-to-day basis:

  • Create, develop and manage content for CIBC websites
  • Coordinate web projects across departments
  • Work with cross-functional teams to maintain and develop content for web properties
  • Copy edit and proofread content intended for the web, telephone banking, bank machines, mobile applications, mass marketing and targeted marketing offers
  • Work cooperatively with key team members, clients and vendors

Editorial project management for large consumer websites:

  • Ensure content from clients and external partners is accurate and meets organizational standards
  • Proofread published content, ensuring accuracy and adherence to editorial standards
  • Coordinate review and fact checking of content by internal clients and business partners
  • Write original copy based on organizational standards and best practices
  • Maintain style, tone and editorial standards for all CIBC Digital SI properties
  • Effective and efficient version control of content and copy decks

Complete daily editorial requests for various internal clients:

  • Write original copy and editing content for online banking, CIBC.com, brokerage/investing sites, and sites for affiliate / subsidiary banking services
  • Copy edit and quality assurance for published content
  • Ensure content from clients and external partners is accurate and meets organizational standards
  • Coordinate review of content by internal clients and business partners
  • Proofread and editorial review of content for cross-functional teams
  • Support the coordination of translation, French editorial review and Quebec legal review
  • Day-to-day relationship management with IC Legal
  • Manage daily content verification process to ensure all published changes are implemented exactly as specified and free of errors

Adapt to evolving business needs, while adhering to deadlines and delivering clean copy:

  • In partnership with project managers, business product teams, marketing teams and development teams, negotiate definition of project scope and timelines while managing internal client expectations
  • Consistently meet deadlines while maximizing value for internal clients
  • Substantive editing, line editing, copy editing and proofreading

Qualifications
What We’re Looking For

Must Have:

  • Degree in Journalism with computer experience, or technology with strong language skills
  • Experience in a digital writing/editorial environment – 5 years
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral – 5 years
  • Effective Client Relationship Management Skills – 5 years
  • Detail and process oriented – 3 years
  • Effective team player willing to share expertise, knowledge and information
  • Keen interest in emerging web technologies, mobile applications and social media
  • High degree of initiative, organization and time management skills needed
  • Ability to work with minimal direction while effectively responding to shifting business needs
  • Understanding of business strategies in order to ensure content alignment
  • Ability to work flexible hours and under tight deadlines. Some limited local travel may be required

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in a digital marketing environment – 3 years
  • Experience with content publishing and defect management tools – 3 years
  • Working knowledge of SEO, user experience and accessibility principles – 3 years
