Accountant (Full-time)

We work hard with boundless ambition and strive for excellence in our cultural commitments. Currently, Choices for Youth is looking for a highly motivated Accountant to become part our Finance team.

Position Summary: Reporting to the Director of Finance and Administration, the Accountant will be responsible for the successful operation of the finance office.

Accounting and Reporting :

  • Manage the accounts receivable & payable processes ensuring correct g/l allocation, coding and timely processing
  • Ensure bank and credit card reconciliations are completed in a timely manner each month
  • Assist in completion of monthly Financial Statement package for management review and quarterly for board review
  • Participate in the budgeting process and ensuring adherence to budget throughout the fiscal cycle
  • Ensure all government filings, such as HAPSAT and WHSCC, are completed accurately and filed according to deadlines
  • Support the Director for Finance & Administration in the completion of year-end accounting tasks – ensuring all reconciliations are complete and preparation of working papers for external auditors
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of policies, procedures and financial controls
  • Other duties as required to ensure the successful operation of the Finance Department

Payroll and Benefits :

  • Completion of accurate bi-weekly payroll for 90+ employees
  • Processing of ROE’s, T4s and employment letters
  • Administering the employee benefits program (RRSP, Health/Dental)
  • Reviewing time sheets and leave balances
  • Ensure all government remittances are filed accurately and on time
  • Manage year end process for the payroll function including year-end reconciliations and issuing T4’s
  • Act as a liaison to employees and external agencies on payroll related inquiries

Qualifications:

  • A degree in business commerce or administration with a concentration in accounting. Some equivalence experience or education may be considered.
  • 5+years experience in accounting with demonstrated experience preparing financial statements, non-profit experience would be a definite asset.
  • A CPA designation or enrollment in the program is considered an asset.
  • Extensive experience in Simply Accounting (Sage50).
  • A strong sense of urgency coupled with a positive can-do attitude.
  • Have a passion to help us achieve our core values.
  • Must have a clear code of contract and be bondable.

Work Hours

  • The position will work 35 hours per week from Monday to Friday. Some flexibility in work hours will be required to accommodate higher work volumes and organizational requirements.

Compensation

  • The salary (scale) for this position will be $51,669 – $57, 6577 annually. Choices offers a competitive compensation package, including: a health and dental program, employer-matched RRSP and four weeks vacation to qualifying employees.
