This is definitely not your typical IT Project gig!

You are not the typical “IT” Program Manger… You know that managing IT programs is an art form – you’re a master at keeping everyone on task and projects on schedule and on budget.

Which is great, because Chatters is not you’re your average salon organization. 100% Canadian owned-operated, Chatters is the largest retailer of professional hair care products in Canada and one of the largest hair salon operators in the country with 109 locations across eight provinces. The Company has both corporate (70 stores) and franchised locations (39 stores). The Company’s revenue is comprised of ~60% retail and ~40% salon services. The typical store is 2,500 to 3,500 square feet split between retail (60% of square footage) at the front of the store and (40%) full-service hair salon at the back with 8-10 salon stations. The Company offers a broad selection of over 5,500 SKUs and in addition to hair products and hair tools, it also sells skin/body products, nail products and accessories. Further, the Company distributes to the system out of a 26,000 s.f. distribution center attached to the head office for 90% of its retail products (the other 10% are shipped direct to stores via third party distributors).


To support us with our growth targets, we’re looking for a seasoned Program Manager to lead our IT transition program. Based in our Red Deer, AB Corporate Head Office, this role will report to the Chairperson, IT Transition Executive Steering Committee. We expect this will be a 12-month temporary role that may require some consultation after the program is delivered.


The current IT team of 8 FTE’s is led by our Director of IT and Business Technology and includes a Sr. Application Analyst, 2 System Analysts, Application Analyst, Data Base Technician, and a Project Coordinator.

To support growth targets for the future, Chatters has undertaken and funded an IT transition program. This program will refine and enhance distribution, point of sale, marketing and supply chain technology processes. Improved capabilities in technology processes will enable sustained, efficient growth, and, provide for increased customer intimacy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for all aspects of project planning, stakeholder communication, financial & schedule management, quality assessment and usability of the components of the transition program.
  • Entrench yourself and quickly come up to speed in the Chatters culture and work within this framework.
  • Deploy project methodologies that will guide and manage all aspects of our IT transition to meet milestones & go-live deadlines.
  • Develop a detailed plan and timeline for POS planning and integration while integrating POS into other key systems (i.e. Navision Dynmaics).
  • Work with the Chatters IT and finance teams to increase the usage of NAV functionality.
  • Identify and evaluate potential areas for improvement and enhancement of capabilities throughout Chatters’ functional areas.
  • Keep projects on track and on budget by creating detailed schedules and defining sound business requirements for all IT projects.
  • Make sure the right resources are assigned at the right time based on project and production requirements.
  • Successfully navigate and manage all IT transition vendor relationships.
  • Hold regular status meetings with internal teams, executive sponsors and external vendors.
  • Keep senior leaders and key stakeholders informed through regular tracking, monitoring and reporting of project progress
  • Take necessary actions needed to ensure projects are on track.
  • Maintain a high level of competence and professionalism when representing Chatters at all times.


  • “Been there, done that” – you have at least 5 years’ experience in a technology management role (retail IT delivery experience and familiarity with accounting systems is preferred)
  • You bring significant experience leading large projects across the finish line with the ability to lead the delivery of multi-streamed IT programs
  • You have a university degree or equivalent experience.
  • Solid understanding of systems integration, preferably at the data layer.
  • Refined vendor management and delivery skills.
  • Proven ability to interact at all levels within an organization.
  • Sound program-level budget management skills
  • PMP certification would be considered an asset.
  • Serious prioritization skills! You know how to manage competing priorities.
  • You can talk the talk with both business and technical stakeholders, you possess exemplary verbal, written and presentation skills.


Compensation will be commensurate with this type of role with bonuses tied to project completion.
