About the Business

TERA Environmental Consultants (TERA) became a member of the CH2M HILL family in April 2014. With offices in Alberta and British Columbia, TERA focuses on providing environmental consulting services to the Canadian pipeline, power line, and oil and gas industries. TERA’s staff is anchored by their group of professional environmental planners who provide project leadership in managing the various regulatory processes. This core group is complemented by TERA’s specialized disciplines, which include Aquatics; Wetlands; Vegetation; Wildlife; Remediation, Reclamation and Restoration Planning; Socio-Economics; Stakeholder Engagement; GIS; Archaeology; and Cultural Resources.
Description and Desired Qualifications

Restoration Specialist – Calgary, AB

Reporting to the Reclamation Manager, the Restoration Specialist will be responsible for effective restoration planning services serving the oil and gas sector within TERA, a CH2M HILL Company.

Primary job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Collecting and analyzing data to determine environmental conditions and restoration needs
Creating restoration plans and reviewing existing environmental protection and mitigation designs
Identifying short and long term effects of environmental activities
Restoration planning as well as program coordination
Offering expertise and support on a variety of assessment and restoration-related activities

Qualifications

Completion of a University Degree(s) in related field of study
P.Ag, RT(Ag), P. Bio or R.P.Bio designation, or be working towards such designation
2 to 3 years minimum experience in vegetation assessment or environmental monitoring or reclamation/restoration planning and knowledge of program planning/implementation
Previous consulting experience in the Oil and Gas Industry would be a strong asset
Knowledge of plant taxonomy and plant structure/anatomy, plant/soil/water relationships as they occur in agricultural, horticultural or silviculture production systems, or in native or novel ecosystems
Familiarity with environmental monitoring (post-construction reclamation assessments/post-construction environmental monitoring programs)
Proven report, technical writing and program coordination skills
Ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as independently while in field or office environments
Knowledge of Federal and Provincial Environmental Legislation and Regulations in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan, in particular, the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, the National Energy Board Filing Manual requirements and Environmental Impact Assessments, would also be an asset
This position is within a multidisciplinary project team environment. This position will be located in Calgary and undertakes a variety of project-related tasks including: public and regulatory consultation; training and supervision of junior personnel; program coordination; field work; and report writing.
