About this Opportunity

The Crude/Product Scheduler is a critical front line operational role within the Commercial team. The position is responsible for daily pipeline logistics related to the movement of crude, diluent, and products in Canada and the U.S., which serve Cenovus’s producing assets. Additionally, the Scheduler will be responsible for blending and transportation of multiple products and provides backup coverage for various scheduling roles as required.

Schedulers are accountable for managing the supply plan for a variety of crude and products transported via various modes of transportation. This may include managing the movement of crude or products via pipeline, rail, marine, or truck. The position coordinates efficient, reliable and safe execution of domestic and international supply plans, scheduling physical movements into and out of supply networks while managing costs, mitigating risk and adding significant commercial value to the organization.

This position is the first point of contact for both Cenovus personnel and the pipelines on which we transport our products; both during normal operational conditions and times of operational upset. The Logistics team within Commercial is an integral part of Cenovus’s broader Downstream organization. The Commercial team leverages Cenovus’s midstream assets in order to optimize the supply chain from crude acquisition to product placement.

This is a full time employee position working in our Calgary office.

Responsibilities

• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
• Act as the primary interface for both Cenovus personnel and the pipelines and terminals in which we transport our products
• Deliver reliable supply while at the same time minimizing working capital, maximizing commercial delivery and identifying optimization opportunities
• Awareness of physical exposures at all times to ensure optimization of asset operations
• Provide support to traders by determining daily physical position, and transportation capacity and utilization forecasts by asset
• Build functional expertise awareness and can effectively influence functions to bring new business to execution stage in a risk controlled manner
• Nominate volumes for shipments to domestic and international pipelines and terminals that correspond with Marketing’s trade strategy
• Using in depth knowledge of contracts, work closely with traders to assess the various ways to optimize transportation and storage assets
• Understand, track, notify key stakeholders of any and all Force Majeure, cuts/curtailments/increases, track Pipeline outage report and assess impact
• Utilize strong operational knowledge while being on-call 24/7 to manage any impacts related to operation of transportation and storage assets
• Manage interconnects between transport modes to ensure safe and timely handoff to/from pipeline, rail and marine
• Schedule crude on downstream pipelines for short-term coverage
• Assist with reconciliation of best available volumes with mid and back office functions
• Mitigate transportation position as per DOA (Transfers/swaps/buy&sells)

Qualifications

• 5 years’ of experience in crude and product logistics, analytics, supply chain, or equivalent work experience
• Formal education in Business, Economics, Engineering or related discipline
• Demonstrated competency related to crude/products blending, transport and the storage and movement of such in Canada and the U.S
• In depth knowledge of U.S. and Canadian pipeline systems
• Demonstrated experience related to the waterborne import and export of crude and products
• Understanding of scheduling and trade cycles including nominations and apportionment analysis
• Understanding of pipeline and storage operations, tariffs, rules and regulations, throughput deficiencies, connection agreements and operating agreements for optimization purposes
• Sound understanding of logistical interfaces between pipe, rail and marine transportation interconnects
• Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills leading to effective decision making
• Effective interpersonal skills (verbal and written)
• Ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment meeting time sensitive deadlines

Other skills

• System experience including Swiftlink, Egistix considered an asset
