This
is full time contract position until January 2016.

We
are looking for a Digital Producer with experience in talk audio programming,
who has a passion for sharing great stories online with Canadians and audiences
worldwide.

You
will oversee the presentation of the very best digital content from across CBC
Radio One – managing lineups, promos and playlists, amplifying, enhancing and
curating audio and web stories on desktop and mobile platforms and managing
social media accounts. You’ll combine your excellent people skills and keen
editorial judgment with a passion for data and analytics to deliver the right
balance of content on the right platforms at the right time.

You
live and breathe social media. You will always be looking for ways to grow our
audience, reaching out to social influencers, trying out new ideas and
establishing successful methods for engaging new users, as well as providing
value for our existing users.

You
will research and stay informed on industry trends, and work with radio and
online producers to develop and recommend best practices. You will help develop
and maintain an online “voice” for CBC Radio One while always ensuring balance
and accuracy. You’ll work enthusiastically and positively with a talented team
of interactive professionals, radio producers and stakeholders from
communications, CBC News, digital operations and others.

Function:
Plans,
conceives, organizes, schedules, researches, writes, edits and/or develops the
production and realization of online promotional content for cbc.ca and digital
content for radio programs. Work must adhere to CBC journalistic and/or
program policies, standards and practices and the Producer is ultimately
responsible for ensuring that this occurs. Nevertheless, there is wide
latitude for initiative, independent judgment and creativity. There is a
regular and ongoing requirement to co-ordinate the work of others.

Key

Tasks:
Manages
the content, tone, balance and format of radio web properties including
cbc.ca/radio, CBC Radio’s Android and iOS apps, CBC Player and social media
channels

Actively
participates in the preparation and production of online content for radio
programs

Assigns,
writes, researches and edits digital copy and images

Increase
awareness of CBC Radio digital content, and develop relationships with social
influencers with a focus on audience growth

Exercises
editorial responsibility as delegated by Management

Collaborates
with all facets of a web production including program and production personnel,
freelance contributors, illustrators, designers, programmers, writers, and
associate producers

Moderates
and responds to the online audience

As

required, performs the following tasks:
select,
re-write and/or edit copy or text written by others

ensure,
in collaboration with Copyright Clearance Officers or others, the proper and
accurate clearance of all material used

determine
the order and importance of various elements of a web lineup

identify,
develop and maintain contacts appropriate to the area of assignment

oversee
or work on the shooting, editing, encoding, digitizing and packaging of digital
audio and video for the internet

liaise
with other departments including News, Communications, Digital Operations,
Legal and others

communicate
with members of the audience in an appropriate and professional manner

Qualifications

You possess the following:
Job
requires a university degree or equivalent.

Job
requires a minimum of 5 years of digital programming experience in a broadcast
environment

Objective criteria

Ability
to write clearly and concisely

Unparalleled
editorial judgment and understanding of balance, standards and ethics

Strong
visual design experience

Ability
to implement an editorial structure with an keen awareness of best practices
for publishing social media, online text, audio and video. Experience and
knowledge of what works and what doesn’t.

Proven
experience digitizing audio and video

Excellent
awareness of the broadcast industry and how major players are incorporating
internet technologies

Strong
understanding of the mobile experience

Familiar
with common web technologies (Javascript, XML, HTML, CSS, JQuery) and platforms
(Polopoly, Expression Engine, WordPress, thePlatform MPX, Dalet, Avid, iNews)

Familiar
with web analytics tools including Adobe Marketing Cloud/Omniture SiteCatalyst,
Chartbeat, Google Analytics, etc. – and how to interpret them

Proven
ability to manage digital initiatives, including technical requirements,
analytics and documentation

Coordinating
the work of other creative teams

Ability
to generate content ideas

Extensive
copy editing experience, particularly adhering to style guides
