Working with other members of the Radio
Digital Programming team and our Communications and Online counterparts, you
will be assigned to design prototypes and online creative concepts for CBC.ca
Radio program

websites, and browsing experiences
for desktop and mobile

,

as well as mobile applications and
other digital services. The senior web designer ensures designs are in line
with the brand, the needs of the end-user, and the business strategy and
objectives of the client.

To be the ideal candidate, you must be a
design thinker and craftsperson, able to thoughtfully contribute in a team
environment during a project’s user research and concept development phases,
and understands how brand vision leads to great design. You should be comfortable
participating in all parts of the user-centered design process and with
creating deliverables that vary from quickly communicating a concept’s value
proposition to final artwork and specifications delivered to a web developer.

Function:
Performs specialized tasks in design by
creating distinctive visual elements within the scope and time constraints of a
program or project. Work is generally performed according to accepted CBC
or industry standards but there is latitude for independent action, judgment
and initiative. Duties are usually performed under high pressure and
tight deadlines within established program formats.

There may be requirements to achieve
results in a self-administered environment on projects where the individual
plans, organizes and carries out the work in a manner that meets the project
requirements.

Key Tasks:
Generates ideas to illustrate editorial
content and increase visual interest. Creates original material
reflecting those ideas.

Modifies, adapts and improvises on concepts
provided by others.

Conceives, creates and executes still and
animated images from brief animation to full background animation.

Key contributor to digital product
development, working with agile team including Developers and Information Architect
to deliver new products.

Understands the role of photography in
digital design and integrates emerging photography trends in design while
understanding producer needs.

Designs logos, typographic and page
layouts, signage, infographics, labeling and packaging for program, print and
multi-media.

Fully understands and able to execute
design for mobile tablets and phones including responsive design.

Provides full, detailed and accurate project
estimates and works within the time assigned. Monitors deviations and
takes corrective measures.

Consults with others involved throughout
the design and production processes to ensure continuity of visual unity.

Contributes ideas and makes recommendations
to overcome problems or achieve desired results. Experiments and devises
new methods or approaches.

Performs all or part of the function or
duties of an equivalent or lower classification. As assigned or required, may

perform any or all of the following tasks:
design simple sets

oversee junior designers when required.

assist in the training of others.

Qualifications

You possess:
Minimum three to five years experience and
demonstrated expertise in new media design and production.

Post-secondary degree/diploma in an
arts/design-related field.

Understanding of grid design and page
layout.

Knowledge of various prototyping methods
and how to apply them.

A background in interactive design.

Understanding of information architecture
in order to develop design requirements and user interface specifications.

Have used or implemented a variety of
techniques for solving interactive design problems.

Demonstrated experience estimating resource
requirements and scheduling for projects.

Experience in user-centered design
techniques.

Understanding of heuristics and usability
testing processes.

Understands the way web development
interacts with design and able to design with technical limitations in mind.

Ability to manage change control throughout
design project execution.

Ability to translate business requirements
documents into design briefs/specifications.

Knowledge of practical benefits and
limitations of relevant technologies.

Willingness to provide constructive
positive feedback to team members.

Complete command of graphic authoring
software such as Adobe Cloud Creative Suite.

Ability to work well in a team to develop
and evolve style guides.

Stays on top of current and emerging
industry trends and digital user experience.

Live URLs, or a portfolio of web and
digital design projects are required to apply for this position.
