Reporting to the Executive Producer of News, this position
will be responsible for the “editorial coverage” for all platforms throughout
the day. Strong assignment and editorial judgement is
a must. The successful candidate will
demonstrate a thorough understanding of what it takes to produce daily news
content to support on-line, radio and television programming.

Function:
Producer in charge of assignment for all
afternoon/evening news gathering (to be assigned Senior Producer). This position is not platform specific; the
individual will be responsible for supplying content for all CBC plaftforms.

An extensive
demonstrated knowledge of the Atlantic Region is required.

Work must adhere to CBC journalistic and/or program
policies, standards and practices and the Producer is ultimately responsible
for ensuring that this occurs. Nevertheless, there is wide latitude for
initiative, independent judgement and creativity. There is a regular and
ongoing requirement to co-ordinate the work of others. This position is the editorial lead for
latenight news gathering content.

Key Tasks:
Assign,
co-ordinate and supervise the work of personnel who contribute to the programs
or segment for which the Producer is responsible;

Responsible
for editorial and assignment decision making

Is the
editorial lead for all evening platforms as delegated by Management.

Identify, develop and maintain contacts appropriate to the area of assignment;

Vet and
copy edit work of others

Determine
the order and importance of various elements of a program;

Conceives and develops program ideas and concepts.

Participates in
the preparation of program objectives.

Plans,
organizes and co-ordinates the program or the components and/or segments of a
program, or programs.

Evaluates
all facets of a production including the performance of program and production
personnel, and freelance contributors.

Assure the
maintenance of a level of communication or rapport with members of the audience
which is both feasible and appropriate to the style and nature of the program
and participate in this activity as necessary.

Qualifications

You possess the following:
Objective Criteria:
University
degree or equivalent with five years’ experience of which three must
involve work in broadcasting or a closely related industry, which is directly
related to the area of assignment.

In depth
knowledge of national and international news.

Demonstrated
ability to lead a programming team and ability to work effectively in a high
pressure, tight-deadline environment

Experience
with program creation and development

Solid
journalistic skills.

Strong
production and editorial skills

Proven
leaderships skills.

Demonstrated
vetting skills.

Demonstrated
coaching skills.

Highly
developed production skills.

Strong
digital/on-line knowledge.

Understanding
of the relationship between network and regional programming; the national
assignment process; and the relationship between Radio and TV assignment.

A track
record of completing assignments independently.

Ability and
experience in leading the activities of a large program unit.

Knowledge
of CBC/Radio-Canada and RDI programs and mandates and CBC/Radio-Canada ‘s
Journalistic Standards and Practices.

Ability to
work flexible hours and weekends.

Ability to
work within tight timelines, often in unexpected overtime situation.

Ability to travel.
