Libraries + Archives in Calgary is seeking a Media Librarian to catalogue and archive locally produced CBC content.

As a Media Librarian, you will be employing your
skills as an information professional by cataloguing CBC radio content in
accordance with CBC’s corporate and departmental standards and policies.
Expertise with metadata standards, subject analysis and controlled vocabularies
is essential. An MLS degree and/or strong knowledge of CBC cataloguing
standards and workflows are an asset. Work is governed by CBC programming and
journalistic policies as well as various agreements governing the possible use of
these materials. There is little latitude for independent action but some
opportunity for initiative and judgement. Advice and guidance are
available.

Key Tasks:
Maintain cataloguing standards and system to manage
library materials and ensure their discoverability

Prepare detailed summaries of the content of programs
and/or library holdings

Catalogue and classify content using metadata
standards and controlled vocabularies

Assigns subject headings to library records

Provide program material and/or research information
on demand and assists producers, researchers, on-air personnel and others in
the selection of material and the use of the library

Advise program production personnel on the
availability of broadcast materials and assists them in obtaining items not
available in the library

Research information using local resources

Ensure the safety, security, preservation, maintenance
and availability of broadcast materials and related documents or photographs;
recommends replacement and/or new purchases

Manage the disposition and removal of broadcast
materials when authorized to do so

Operate equipment required to perform library tasks

Screen broadcast material and select stock footage,
prepare shot lists

Qualifications

You possess the following:
University degree in library science or the equivalent. A Masters in Library Science (MLS) is considered a very strong asset

Two years of comparable and relevant experience

Fluent in English

Able to rapidly and accurately summarize/describe audio/video materials

Good knowledge of and experience with the Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel and Access

Knowledge of recent Canadian history, current events, and personalities in the province Advanced knowledge of metadata standards, subject analysis and controlled vocabularies

Knowledge of or experience cataloging digital collections

Experience creating archive descriptions or original document cataloguing projects

Technical knowledge of recording media

Knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canada programming policies and journalistic standards and practices

Knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canada programming

Proven ability to work without supervision

Strong interpersonal skills working in a team environment

Highly organized and detail-oriented

Able to work in a tight-deadline environment

Self-motivated and self-sufficient
