Background: About OLIP
The Ottawa Local Immigration Partnership (OLIP) is a multi-sectoral partnership involving 60 local organizations working on a shared vision and common priorities designed to build local capacity to attract, settle, and integrate immigrants in 5 sectors: (1) settlement; (2) economic integration; (3) health and wellbeing; (4) language training and interpretation; and (5) socio-civic integration.
OLIP promotes strategic alignment of its partners’ plans and priorities, facilitates their collaboration across sectors, and mobilizes engagement and resources to develop effective responses to complex and persistent barriers and challenges. OLIP partners include the City of Ottawa, local universities and colleges, the four school boards, employers and employer associations, settlement, social, and health service providers, and regional planning bodies.
Support communications plans for OLIP’s –bi-annual Ottawa Immigration Forum, annual welcoming Ottawa Week (WOW), website content, electronic newsletter, and social media channels
Design and copy-edit a semi-annual electronic newsletter to facilitate information flow across sectors and between stakeholders
Create infographics that summarize research findings, concepts, and impact of specific initiatives
Position and write media advisories, media releases, social media content, blog entries, and web content that support events, initiatives and partnerships
Work with OLIP officials and partners to develop and communicate key messages and strategic positioning on shared priorities, engagements and partnerships, and collaborative initiatives
Provide social media support and expertise.
Monitor, track, and disseminate selected media stories
Coordinate the work of professionals: graphic designers, videographers, photographers, event planners, web developers
Skills and Qualifications
A degree in communications, journalism, marketing or a related field of study.
Fluency in English and French both oral and written is a requirement.
Two to three years of professional experience in a corporate communications role.
Advanced writing skills: media releases, blogs, web content, scripts, report summaries, and presentations.
A solid grasp of alternative and social media.
Proven track record of success as an effective, articulate communicator with stakeholders including media professionals and story pitching, web communications and with social media communication channels.
Strong project management and coordination skills
Ability to multi-task, manage tight deadlines and thrive in a busy, fast-paced environment.
Strong analytical, organizational, planning skills.
Knowledge of Ottawa’s settlement and social services network
Availability to work extended hours as needed and often on short notice.
