Summary The Terrain Park Supervisor will supervise the Terrain Park staff as well as all Park activities. In addition, the TP Supervisor will design the Park in such a way that it will offer the variety required for novice and intermediate users, following a progressive style layout. The supervisor will work closely with the grooming manager, and mountain safety manger, to insure that the build design is achievable and meets our requirements. Prior to construction a layout of features and rails is required. There will be an ongoing operational focus on safety and maintenance of features, signs, fencing and slope conditions.

Job Duties

  • Train and coach all terrain park employees on daily operation in the park and safety policies and work as a team to accomplish daily goals and operations.
  • Follow written and oral instructions, including communicating with other departments.
  • Ensures compliance with all Risk Management, health and safety protocols.
  • Plan and layout the shape of the park for approval from Mountain Safety Manager
  • Schedule snow cat time and coordinate with the grooming department for initial building and nightly grooming needs
  • Work with the snow cat operators during building to insure best results
  • Maintain the Terrain park throughout the season by organizing man power or cat time if necessary
  • Ski/ride the park prior to daily opening to assess quality and safety issues
  • Mark off and close features as safety necessitates, and report closing to Ski Patrol
  • Shovel snow, fix broken items, and perform general maintenance on park features
  • Log and document all safety issues, changes in park features, and feature openings/closings
  • Patrol the park, encouraging proper park use and addressing unsafe practices with users
  • Efficiently use time with machinery tools and personnel
  • Use industry knowledge to locate events for which Castle could be the venue.
  • Build park with the events in mind to save costly rebuild time
  • Work with marketing department to advertise these events
  • Research the possibilities of demo days in the park

Customer Service Expectations: The Terrain Park Supervisor has regular customer interactions with visitors and users of the park, and must be helpful, friendly, courteous and professional in accordance with Castle Mountain’s commitment to providing superior customer service.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • Parkscaper course provided through Selkirk college and CWSAA is preferred
  • 2-3 years’ experience in Terrain park design and or maintenance.
  • Knowledge of terrain park design and building
  • Frequent previous use of terrain parks as a skier/rider
  • Intermediate to advanced skiing/riding ability
  • Experience with grooming Terrain Parks

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Snow shaping skills
  • Knowledge of terrain park components and proper terrain park etiquette
  • Solid supervisory skills

WORKING CONDITIONS : This position works primarily outside, and requires prolonged periods of skiing/riding and labor-intensive maintenance work in all weather conditions and on slippery and/or uneven snow or icy surfaces. Requires lifting up to 50 lbs., pushing/pulling snow with rakes and shovels and using power tools. It also requires being on your feet for the majority of the scheduled shift. Some desk work, such as staff scheduling, is performed indoors in a climate controlled office environment.
